Intro:
Sonic & Knuckles continues directly on from Sonic 3. This time, you have the option to play as either Sonic or Knuckles. Sorry fox fans, but no Tails this time.

The real beauty to this game is the fact the cartridge 'locks on' to previous Sonic games. Stick Sonic 1 in the cart and you get a special game that lets you play thousands of Sonic 3/Sonic and Knuckles style special stages. Put in Sonic 2, and you get 'Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2', where you play through the game as Knuckles with his unique abilities.

The best feature of this is putting in Sonic 3. You'll get Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles, a huge game that is both Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. You can play as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles through all the zones from the two games, plus a few extras thrown in!

Story:
After Sonic managed to stop the Death Egg from leaving the Earth's atmosphere, it was knocked back down to Angel Island. Sonic, blown to a distant area on the island, was separated from Tails in the explosion. Can Sonic get back to the Death Egg in time and stop it from launching? Will he find out the purpose of the mysterious 'Master Emerald' and its links to the Chaos Emeralds? And will Knuckles finally work out who's the real bad guy?

The Game:
Sonic & Knuckles is a continuation of Sonic 3, and so plays exactly like it. Being able to play as Knuckles lets you use his gliding and climbing abilities, and you can get to new areas that you couldn't reach before.
