Powers: Cannonball has the ability to blast himself into the air with a kinetic energy field. The field allows him to fly and makes him invernable.

Origin: Born in Kentucky, Sam is the oldest of nine children. His father was killed in a mining accident, and he was raised by his mother. Sam was destined to follow in his father's footsteps and become a miner until the day his mutant powers surfaced. Soon, he was found by Professor Xavier and he become a New Mutant, becoming Cannonball for the first time.

History: Cannonball was the perfect student of Xavier's, following his mentor's dream to perfection. He even shared field leader with his teammate, Mirage. He became best friends with Sunspot, and met the girl of his dreams in the intersteller rock star Lila Cheney. He was happy with the New Mutants.
But the happiest could not last forever. Soon, the New Mutants would go downhill. Xavier nearly died, and on what would have been his deathbed, he put Magneto, their archenemy, in charge of the students. The team also suffered many losses, from Cypher to Magik to Warlock. Slowly, the team, and Cannonball's innocence, were falling apart. Magneto went back to his evil ways, and the team was found by Cable, an engimatic man who wanted to lead the team to its true destiny.
Cannonball became the deputy leader again, but the New Mutants were falling apart. Most of the team had left, some had defected, and only the remaining New Mutants, Cannonball and his then lover Boomer, were left. The team had changed, and the New Mutants were gone. All that was left was X-Force.
X-Force, while Cannonball was still leader, was different then the New Mutants. Cannonball was no longer part of a dream, but a soldier in a war to protect the future. But Cannonball and Boomer stuck with it, through all the hard times and became closer then ever. Cannonball's innocence was gone now, his country-bumpkin eyes opened to how real the world was.
Cannonball would soon learn a truth that would change his life. After being killed by the evil Sauron, Cannonball awake, alive and well. This was his first step in becoming a High Lord, or Externals, a race of immortal mutants, like Selene and Gideon. His perspective on life changed, with the knowledge that he may live forever.
X-Force slowly changed, confronted by the traitorous Feral, which Cannonball helped to bring in. And Cable was changing too. Cannonball was more and more the leader.
Eventually, the team's home was destroyed, and they were invited back to Xavier Mansion, the place where Cannonball grew up in the New Mutants. So, X-Force returned home, so to speak, but the biggest surprise was when they got there. Cable and Professor X had decided that the time was right for Cannonball to achieve his life-long dream of becoming an X-Man.
Cannonball was thrilled at first, but soon discovered his dream had a bitter reality. For the X-Men, he put his relationship with Boomer on hold, and he soon discovered that instead of being the leader, he was now the novice. Feeling out of place and homesick, Cannonball none-the-less remained with the X-Men for a period.
However, tragedy struck again when he visited his old teammates while they were in Texas. X-Force had left the mansion and were on the road. When he got there, he discovered that his lover and his best friend were now sharing the same bed. Infuriated and betrayed, Cannonball stormed back to the mansion.
Soon after, Cannonball got word that his mother was sick. He left the X-Men, returning home. However, life was not simple there as he thought. He got caught up with a girl named Arcadia. Arcadia used her powers and brought X-Force to him. Cannonball soon left home behind, knowing that his mother was better, and went back to other home, with X-Force.
But life with X-Force was not what he expected. Cable had left the team, leaving Siryn as leader. Sunspot and Boomer, now called Meltdown, still shared a bed. But slowly, things changed again. Siryn was hurt, and Cannonball became leader again. Meltdown left Sunspot, and Sunspot would soon leave the team. And then, the biggest change of all happened, X-Force went underground.
With the help of Pete Wisdom, the team transformed itself and its purpose. Cannonball was still leader, but Wisdom was now their advisor, showing them the underbelly of the black market. X-Force was transformed and so was Cannonball. He became harder and more bitter the more of this world he saw. Eventually, the team faced a group of Russian super-soldiers. And the team supposedly died, but when in reality, they went further underground, trying to root out the evil in the world, one small speck at a time. Cannonball's current whereabouts are unknown.
