CHAPTER 1 INTERPRETATION

Active Member" A member who has played an average of at least 2, in the case of student, and 3, in the case of a non-student member, rated games every month during the Selection Period.

"Bonus Points" Points added to a player's rating as an award for outstanding performance in tournaments during the Selection Period to arrive at the player's Selection Index.

"Categories" For both male and female: Open; Youth (Under 26); Junior (Under 20); Under 18; Under 16; Under 14; Under 12; Under 10.

"Council" The National Executive Council of the JCF

"Cut-off Date" In relation to a local tournament, the end of the penultimate month prior to the month in which the Tournament is to begin, and, in relation to an overseas event, a date sixty days before the beginning of the month in which the overseas event is scheduled to begin.

"Designated Region" A region of Jamaica with sufficient members and/or chess activity to be designated as such by the Council and placed under the control of a Regional Committee.

The Designated Regions are for the time being:
(a) The Corporate Area
(b) St. Catherine
(c) Manchester
(d) The Western Zone- St. James, Hanover and Westmoreland
(e) The Eastern Zone- Portland and St. Thomas

"JCF" The Jamaica Chess Federation.

"National Champions" The holders (male and female) of the following titles:

Jamaica National Champion
National Youth Champion (Under 26 year)
National Junior Champion (Under 20)
National Champion (Under 18)
National Champion (Under 16)
National Champion (Under 14)
National Champion (Under 12)
National Champion (Under 10)

"Non-JCF event" An event organized by any affiliated body in which more than two-thirds of the participants are not ordinary members of the JCF, except that for the purpose of collecting rating fees FIDE events and international tournaments recognized by the JCF shall be considered JCF events.

"Selection Index" The aggregate of the Rating of the player and any bonus points awarded during the Selection Period.

"Selection Period" The period of 6 months leading up to the Cut-off Date, unless otherwise specified by the Council.

"Status" The sex and age group of a member whether male or female and whether student, junior, youth or adult.

"Student" A person who is below the age of 25 and is pursuing a full-time course of studies at an educational institution.
