BYE- LAWS AND REGULATIONS Previous Chapter - Next Chapter CHAPTER 5- SELECTION 5.13 An Alien shall not be selected for any National Championships or National Team unless he has been resident in Jamaica for more than 1 year and the Council is satisfied that he shall remain so resident for a minimum period of 1 year after the end of the tournament for which it is proposed to select him. 5.14 Non-resident members who are citizens of Jamaica are eligible for selection. 5.15 In case of selection for international tournaments the Selection Committee shall organize such training programs for the players as it deems fit and shall retain the option to exclude from their recommendations to the Council the names of any players who in the opinion of the Selection Committee have failed to participate adequately in such training programs. 5.16 Notwithstanding the preceding Bye-laws, the Council reserves the right to select or bar from selection any member on the basis of his or her deemed performance during the selection period. Moreover, the Council shall have the right to bar from selection any player who has in the course of the preceding fourteen months been expelled from a tournament or who has lost one or more games by default without an acceptable explanation or who has withdrawn from a National Chess Championship or any tournament organized by the Jamaica Chess Federation. 5.17 The Council may, in determining the Selection Indices of players, award them such Bonus Points as it thinks fit for outstanding performance in tournaments, as follows: (a) In Ladder Tournaments, 200, 180, 160, 140, 120, 100, 80, 60, 40, 20 for the first ten places respectively in relation to every category; (b) 50 for 1st place in an open Swiss Tournament; (c) 30 for 1st place in a closed Tournament. 5.18 The Council, on the advice of the Selection Committee, shall on
or before the 1st day of January in each year in which an Olympiad or
other international team tournament is scheduled select a Men’s
and Women’s squad consisting of no more than six women and no more
than ten men on the basis of their Selection indices at that date. The
Squad will be subject to review and change monthly and will undergo such
training and make such preparations for participation in the Olympiad
or international team event as shall be necessary.
