Initial Guidelines

Follow these guidelines and you will do much better in your games. The most critical part is the beginning where you set up your economy.
-Put all four drones to mine a different minerals. Make them mine at the closest blocks.
-Spend all your money. Don't have extra minerals lying around. It's a waste
-Build only what is necessary. You don't need 5 pylons when you only have 15 units. Sure, you need them later but that extra money can be used to build something more productive. Upgrade if nothing else.
-Put your unit producing buildings near the entrance, not in the back of your base. -Leave space for your units to easily move from one part of your base to another. If you make a wall of buildings as many protoss players like to do with gateways, you will have trouble moving goons to your mining area when wraiths attack. If you have a small choke where only 1 goon can squeeze through at a time, your opponent will have an easier time killing them. Refer to the "micro" section for more information.

Advanced Guidelines

Here's the stuff for the later game. Learn these too. It's logic, not memorization.
-Don't wait too long to attack your opponent.
-Mix your units. You will learn about main attackers and support units. Someone using a mix has an advantage over someone massing up on one.
-Don't scout if you are trying to tech fast. People are more reluctant to scout you if they know you have found them.
-Send your drone to build before you have enough money. Time it right so you will have enough at the time your drone arrives at the building site.
-Scout with drones or lings. Other units like zealots are too expensive.
-Put a drone outside your base as a scout. You will be able make last minute adjustments if you see you are about to be attacked.
-Use waypoints to scout so you don't "forget" after your drone reaches a place.
-When attacking, kill the important buildings first. Killing the Hydra Den or Cybernetics Core will prevent additional hydras and goons from attacking you. Killing pylons are a waste of time. You can do that later when you're no longer in danger.
-As a counter to the above, place your important buildings in the back of your base away from the entrance.
-If you have more than enough troops to kill someone, place some units at the entrance to prevent drones from escaping. Always check all areas of the base to make sure everything is eliminated.
-If someone has no Nexus and no probes, they can't build anything. If they still have buildings standing, send maybe one unit to finish all of it off. Don't waste your units attacking someone who can't hurt you. You can do that later when his partners are dead.
-Speed is more important than range or strength. Upgrade hydra speed before range and stim packs before marine range. Sure, you need range if you want to fight off carriers and battlecruisers but you won't see them so early in the game. It's more important you can run faster to help your buddies when they get attacked.
