Damage

Most people don't know that there are 3 types of damage dealing. Normal, Concussive, and Explosive.

-Normal - Units will deal the damage displayed to any other unit.
-Concussive - Unit will deal only 50% damage to medium units and 25% to large units.
-Explosive - Unit will deal only 75% damage to medium units and 50% to small units.

Unit sizes for ground units are based on how many you can fit in a dropship. 8 small units, 4 medium, and 2 large units fit into a dropship. All air units except scourges, mutas, cosairs and carrier interceptors are considered large. There are only a few exceptions to this rule which you can check out in the unit stats pages.

Take note of the damage a unit does. Vultures seem very strong at first glance because they do 20 damage. However, that damage is concussive. If it attacks a tank, it will only do 25% or 5 damage. It's great for killing infantry and zerglings though. Buildings are considered large. If you are doing a quick vulture rush, don't attack buildings. You are wasting your time. Don't worry too much if a unit does explosive damage. You still do a minimum of 50%.

This makes concussive the worst of the 3 types but that doesn't mean you don't use vultures and firebats. They specialize in killing small units. Get these if your opponent masses up on infantry or lings. The only 3 units that use concussive damage are firebat, vulture, and ghost. A ghost isn't exactly meant for attacking so that 10 damage is really a bonus.
