"Citizens of Marktown need to forget about the horible year the Diggers have been having and need to start looking forward to the upcoming SHL season." said Peterson to start things off. Director of Scouting Bobby Clarke told reporters that him, Probert, and Peterson have been working countless hours behind the scenes as the draft creeps up. "Bob has been working his ass off for us and for the fans of the organization this summer." Probert told reporters. Tretiak continued to say that this year the Petes will be a different team. "The organization is sick of losing. And we are going to change that this year. We have finally finished the Copenhagen Centre." Peterson hushed reporters so he could tell the AP that he, and the rest of the managerial staff will be unveiling the new Toe Blake room on September 1, 2009. "Before every home game there will be a draw for the room. The winner will get to watch the game from the Toe Blake room. They will get VIP access and treatment throughout the whole game." said Wendel Clark. "on September 4, 2009 we will be unveiling our new third jersey, dressing room, players lounge, and alternate logo." Peterson told reporters. He also said that "we hope these new accomodations will help the Petes feel more comfortable at home and we will be able to go into our 4th year of existance on top. The Petes finished 10th in the '08/'09 season. Two spots behind their 8th place finish in '07/'08. The SHL draft will be help in Nut Town sometime in September. -submitted from: Marktown Gazette Management Changes: Grrrowl Add Familiar Face To Management Staff The Scott City Grrrowl have added a new member to its management team. Former General Manager of the Kyle County Ice, Kyle Gordon has joined the Grrrowl as the new Director of Hockey Operations. Gordon is taking over from former NHL veteran Wayne Cashman. Gordon is the second former SHL GM to join the Grrrowl. Jesse Trach joined the Grrrowl last summer as the Director of Scouting. Gordons role as the Director of Hockey Operations should include all financial matters, equipment, and advising the General Manager Scott Macfie. It has also been rumored that former GM of the Leeville Landcrushers, Lee McCutcheon is looking for work within the SHL. In other news if the Gilmore Gold Jackets do not return for this season, their former GM Hans Johansen is rumored to be reunited with his longtime friend Craig Macfie with the Gangbang and added in a coaching or management role. However, if the Gold Jackets return and the Leafs fold then longtime serving Leafs GM Adam Olchowy will likely be offered a job from any franchise within the SHL. Wrap Up: Christmas Classic Was A Success Despite an undisclosed injury to Marktown Petes GM Mark Peterson and a lower body injury to Natives GM Travis Nutting, the Annual Christmas Classic Charity Game was a success. Proceeds raised were put towards the Stephan Danielson Foundation of Hope as always. Also, missing in action were RumpyVill Roughousers GM Trent Rumpel who had family committments and was unable to play. Adam Olchowy GM of the Olchowyville Leafs was unable to play because he had a game in the Pasquia Hockey League that night with the Kinistino Tigers. Mark Macfie GM of the Markerville Six Guns left the ice following four minutes of playing time as what was believed to be a case of embarrassment from his lack of skating ability. Some say that is the reason Natives Travis Nutting did not participate in the game. Scott Macfie was named the Classic's MVP with his stellar save percentage in net for a losing cause. The classic went to seven games where a team that consisted of Scott Macfie, Craig Macfie, Dion Berg, Brandon Allen, Greg Manson lost in the seventh game due to a lack of defensive play. A team that consisted of Falcons GM Adam Wilkinson and Iceholes GM Derek Berg ended up winning the classic. Following the seventh game, the annual bench brawl ensued which seen ten match penalties. One of the match penalties issued to Derek Berg may result in a ban from next years game. He is protesting following a spear he recieved from the opposing teams goaltender Scott Macfie in Game Four where no penalty was issued. The Drunkest Player of the Classic Award went to Greg Manson for his efforts in blocking shots in front of the net with no helmet on and sliding all over the ice. Rumor Mill: Expansion On The Eastern Front With two eastern teams folding this off-season, one can only speculate what will happen to the Saskatchewan Hockey Leagues Eastern Division. It has been made official that there will indeed be 12 teams in the league for 07-08 season. Whether those teams will lie on the Eastern side of the nation or not is still in question. If an expansion team comes in off the west coast will the Brantown Slammers be moved to the Eastern Division? This would erase Western Division rivalries that are apart of the heritage of the SHL. In all likeliness during this 21st century oil boom, the only part of the nation that can afford an expansion SHL franchise is a city in the mid-eastern provinces. It is certain that most fanatics would like to see both expansion cities join the Eastern Division. Looking Ahead: The Saskatchewan Hockey League Launches The Hot Stove After months of planning the Saskatchewan Hockey League is proud to present the first Saskatchewan Hockey League owned message board for the fans. The SHL Board of Directors launched The Hot Stove message board this afernoon from a press conference inside the Gatorade Center in Dionland, RF. The Hot Stove gives the fans a chance to interact about the latest breaking news around the league. With the TV ratings increasing for all Television stations with a SHL contract the message board is sure to make the ratings sky rocket even more in the 2007-2008 hockey season. Look in the future for there to be posts from both SHL General Managers and players in the coming months before the 2007 SHL Draft. In Review: Gilmore Gold Jackets Capture The Copenhagen Cup The Gilmore Gold Jackets are the first expansion team to win the Copenhagen Cup since the RumpyVill Roughosers did it in the inaugaral year or the Saskatchewan Hockey League. The Gold Jackets moved into first place of the SHL regular seson on the final night of the schedule for the first time to capture the regular season championship. They are the second team to win the regular season championship and the Copenhagen Cup, the last team to do it were the Dionland Twisters in the 2003-2004 season. The game seven OT victory was a fitting way to end an exciting season in Gilmore. Jackets GM Hans Johansen was ecstatic about his teams Championship season and is looking forward to the 2007-2008 season to attempt to be the first team in SHL history to win consecutive Copenhagen Cups. (read more) Looking Ahead: The Divisional Championiships Are Ready To Begin The Adamville Falcons were ousted out of the playoffs by the Scott City Grrrowl; with the Grrrowl now moving onto the Eastern Division Final to face the Brantown Slammers in a rematch of last seasons Copenhagen Cup Final. The Dionland Twisters advanced past Fort Macfie; they will face-off against the expansion Gold Jackets who have already claimed the regular season championship and wtith that earned a bye to the Western Division Final. The semi-finals of the Copenhagen Cup playoffs will show the passion and heart this league is made of. Looking Ahead: Who Will Get The Sixth And Final Playoff Spot The SHL Playoffs are looming closer and closer and with the Jackets and Slammers recently clinching playoff spots and the Twisters, Grrrowl, and Gangbang all having a solid gap between them and the sixth place Gregville Assassines, the only real question is who will be the sixth place team to make it to the Copenhagen Cup playoffs. Gregville and Adamville have been fighting it out for that spot for past couple weeks but with Trach City only four points out, Olchowyville eight points out and Marktown ten points out. All of these five teams have a pretty good chance of reaching the playoffs, it's all a matter of what team can gel together in the last three games and what GM can make his team better before the March 1st trade deadline. Looking Ahead: Trade Deadline Little More Then A Month Away With the All-Star Break all said and done it only means one thing; the stretch run. With the stretch run comes one important date; March 1st the date of the SHL Trade Deadline. With this comes some important decision lie ahead for SHL General Managers. Which teams should keep there team chemistry as is and which teams should make a blockbuster or two to make a serious run for the Copenhagen Cup. Marktown Petes GM Mark Peterson realizes his squad is 20 points out of a playoff spot but if Ray Emery can stand on his head it isn't realistic if they pick up another sniper or two for them to squeeze into the playoffs. Over confident GM Dion Berg has to consider whether his currently first place squad is strong enough to last in the playoffs or crash and burn like they did in last years postseason. Adamville Falcons GM Adam Wilkinson has to look at if the hot streak his team is on will last or if they need more help to hold onto the 6th and final playoff spot which they are in posession of right now. Things should get very interesting. In Review: Grrrowl Players Shine At Home In 2nd Annual All-Star Game Joe Thornton, Marian Hossa, and Mikka Kiprusoff all shun at home infront of the Scott City faithful at the Great Eastern Forum in the 2nd Annual All-Star Game. Mikka Kiprusoff shut out the Western Division in the first period of the game he played until Roberto Luongo took over for him. Marian Hossa was able to notch two goals, and Joe Thornton picked up four goals earning himself All-Star Game MVP honors. After winning All-Star Game MVP in last year's game; Alexander Ovechkin was only able to get a single goal in this years game. Scott City put on quite the show and the bidding for next years All-Star Game should begin, most likely the game will be held in a Western Division city after two straight All-Star Games being held in Eastern Division cities. (read more) In Review: And It's The All-Star Break The Saskatchewan Hockey League has reached the All-Star Break, some needing the break more than others. For example the banged up and somewhat slumping Scot City Grrrowl couldn't have asked for a better time for the break to hit so they can rest some bodies. On the other hand the red hot streaking Adamville Falcons have the break coming right after a 5-0 pounding on the Grrrowl. Hopefully for the Falcons sake they can keep this momentum after break too. Teams like the Olchowyville Leafs and Gregville Assassines sit down and evaluate their squads to see what they have to do to make a serious playoff run. Then the Marktown Petes take time to decide if they have any chance in hell to make the Copenhagen Cup Playoffs or if they should start scouting for next year already. (read more) Looking Ahead: SHL GM Charity Christmas Game In The Works The SHL has announced they are planning a chairty GM Christmas Shinny Game to take place on December 23 a day after the SHL players go on Christmas holidays. Plans are still in the works but it looks as if the game will be held at the Birch Hills Arena. All proceeds of the game go towards the Stephan Danielson Foundation of Hope. Stephan Danielson himseld might even suit up for the game. All GM"s are expected to be in the game the only question marks are Trent Rumpel who has always stated he has made a family commitment in Wadena and Jesse Trach is unsure of his availability of the game. Other celebrities joining the game could be former SHL GM's Kyle Gordon and Lee McCutcheon aswell as the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCJHL's Assistant Coach Jaret Engele. The game should be an absolute shitshow and don't be surpised if a few fists fly between the GM's. (read more) Rumor Mill: Americans GM Trach Not Showing Up To Work General Manager of the Trach City Americans, Jesse Trach has reportedly been missing days at the office between games. This rumor became evidently true when Trach was not in attendance at Ken's Cresting Arena when the Americans were defeated by the Twisters 4-2 last Saturday. This rumor would also prove true with the performance the Americans are putting out is not to shabby with what Trach has given Head Coach Patrick Roy to work with. The league does not set a fine for this type of incident it is solely up to Trach City American President and Chief Executive Officer Tony Esposito. This incident again can be completely a myth, we will see what comes about this matter as more information comes our way. (read more) In Review: Should Falcons Give Cherry The Blame The blame was bestowed on Don Cherry for the Adamville Falcons worst start in franchise history, but can you really blame Cherry? Sure he is a part of the drafting process and who they rank on there pre draft depth chart. What the Falcons need to consider is if they need a major shake up. Henri Richard steps in as interim Head Coach but was he running the forwards effectively as needed prior to Cherry's firing. GM Adam Wilkinson should take some of the blame for the poor team he drafted. Obviously the Falcons did have the last pick in this years draft but the skilled players they did not draft such as team captain Daniel Alfredsson and speedster Martin St. Louis are not performing. The lone bright spot is Ilya Kovalchuk, but other players will need to step up big if the Falcons want to turn this so far wreck of a season around. (read more) |

| Leafs Currently On Four Game Losing Skid |
| OLCHOWYVILLE, GC -- After being slated by the Associated Press to finish dead last this year the Olchowyville Leafs had a promising start to the season. However, they are currently on a four game losing streak following a 3-2 loss to the RumpyVill Roughousers. The 3-9-2 Marktown Petes have three more wins than last year already but with their dismal record sit in the SHLs basement following a 7-0 shellacking to the Fort Macfie Gangbang they followed it up with a 4-3 loss to the Nut Town Natives on the weekend. Fort Macfie are creeping their way out of the leagues bottom half by winning three of their last four games and getting past the Dionland Twisters 5-2. | Greatest Rivalry in SHL History Will Face-off at Outdoor Classic |
| SCOTT CITY, TC --The fans voted it as the greatest rivalry in the leagues history and now the Scott City Grrrowl(8-4-2) and the Dionland Twisters(6-6-2) will face-off in the first ever SHL outdoor game. Typically the home of the Scott City Oil Kings of the Saskatchewan Baseball League, Chevrolet Field situated in downtown Scott City will be used for another purpose other than a baseball stadium on January 31, 2009. The rivalry between the two teams dates back to the first year of the SHL but it really became evident in the 2003-2004 Copenhagen Cup Final when Dionland defeated Scott City in six games. Following the Lockout in the 2005-2006 playoffs, Scott City eliminated Dionland in the semi-finals four games to two. Then in last years playoffs Dionland knocked out Scott City in the... | Twisters Fall to Sixth Place After 2-2 Tie Against Nut Town |
| DIONLAND, RF -- Following a 2-2 tie on the weekend against Nut Town, the defending Copenhagen Cup Champion, Dionland Twisters fell back to sixth spot. The Twisters are now winless in three straight. Sitting one point behind Dionland in the standings are the Bergland Iceholes. The Iceholes ended a four game winless skid with a 5-0 shutout victory over the tenth place Olchowyville Leafs. The first place Assassinns had their nine game undefeated streak come to an end via the second place Grrrowl. Scott City beat up on Gregville winning 6-0. The Slammers earned a 5-1 win over the Adamville Falcons. The Slammers sit in third spot five points behind the Grrrowl. RumpyVill and Fort Macfie sit in third and fourth place respectively after the Gangbang visited the RumpyVill. The Roughousers were able to edge the Gangbang 3-2. Markerville got a big 4-1 win over the Petes on Sunday. The Six Guns reside in eleventh place; nine points out of a playoff spot. The Petes are in twelfth place; twenty four points out of a playoff position. | From the Outhouse to the Penthouse; Grrrowl in First Place |
| SCOTT CITY, TC -- Earlier in the season following a week seven 4-0 shutout loss, the Scott City Grrrowl sunk into the leagues last spot. Following that game, an 8-0-1 stretch has moved the Grrrowl from twelfth spot into the leagues top spot. Last week the Grrrowl edged the Marktown Petes 4-3 to gain possession of first place. Gregville slips back into second place after their second straight loss, they fell 3-2 to the ninth place Adamville Falcons. Brantown still manage to hang around in third spot. The leagues leading scorer Evgeni Malkin helped the Slammers tie the hot and cold Bergland Iceholes 3-3. The Roughousers three game winning streak was snapped by the visiting Nut Town Natives. The Natives shutout the Roughousers 3-0 and with that win the Natives move to one point out of a playoff spot in seventh place. Everyone involved with the SHL is still surprised the Natives aren't in last place. Fort Macfie continues ascending up the leagues standings while the Leafs continue descending down into the cellar. Fort Mac knocked off the Leafs at the Olchowyville Spectrum 5-1. Markerville suffered a 3-1 loss to the sixth place Dionland Twisters. The All-Star break is now upon us. With seven weeks remaining until the playoffs commence, things are sure to heat up. If Dionland can hold onto a playoff spot and win the Copenhagen Cup they will be the first team in SHL history to win the Copey Cup in back to back seasons. The Twisters post all-star break schedule begins with the first ever Outdoor Classic in Scott City against the first place Grrrowl. |

With the victory, the Iceholes sit in fourth place and are one of the leagues hottest teams with a four game undefeated streak.
