A NEW SEASON IS SET TO BEGIN; NUT TOWN TO HOST THE 2009 SHL DRAFT
An Article From Wray Morrison of the Nut Town Advocate

SCOTT CITY,TC -- The 2009/2010 SHL season is still a couple months away from beginning but planning for next season is well underway.  It was announced Monday afternoon at the Alliance Energy Boardroom inside the Infinity Center in Nut Town, ED that the Natives will be hosting the 2009 SHL Draft.  Last years draft was held in Gregville, HC and seen the Iceholes select Alexander Ovechkin first overall at the Manson Family Center.  Also in last years draft Scott City made history by being the first team in league history to select two goalies in the first two rounds. They selected Martin Brodeur first overall; who ended up missing most of the season with a torn bicep tendon.  Despite the injury the Grrrowl were still able to win their first Copenhagen Cup this past spring.

Heading into the 2009/2010 season many teams are gearing up with some serious scouting and video sessions this summer.  Many eyes are focused on rookie prospect John Tavares.  There is no clear idea on where abouts in the draft Tavares will be selected however. Petes GM Mark Peterson commented I really havent come up with an answer just yet as to where we project Tavares on our draft depth chart.  Gangbang GM Craig Macfie stated when asked about Tavares draft projection on their charts "Not that high. We don't want to jeopardize our great core for one guy."  Dion Berg GM for the Dionland Twisters commented "we will probably have in projected to go as high as the 5th round for us." Defending Copenhagen Cup Champions Scott City Grrrowl GM Scott Macfie wouldnt give out any details. "Our scouting department does a phenomenal job for us every summer and I am im no way going to share any of our draft projections so other organizations have an advantage from what our scouts have put together" stated Macfie on Tuesday.

The draft usually takes places in the third week of September. Meaning the draft is only two months away. It appears this will be the first time in years that there will be no expansion teams joining the SHL.  Don't count on it though, that has been the plan for numerous years but there is always a late addition.

The only teams that are at-risk of folding are the Nut Town Natives and the Olchowyville Leafs.  With the Natives hosting the draft it appears as if that makes them an official entry for the 09/10 season.  The Leafs have never made the playoffs in franchise history and with staggering ticket sales the teams profit is declining.  The deciding factor will probably be if the Gilmore Gold Jackets are going to put a bid in to return to the league after a one year leave of absence much like the Natives did last season when they returned.  Many of these discussions are presumed to be going to take place at the wedding of Fort Macfie Gangbang GM Craig Macfie in mid August.
