In Review:  And It's The All-Star Break
The Saskatchewan Hockey League has reached the All-Star Break, some needing the break more than others.  For example the banged up and somewhat slumping Scot City Grrrowl couldn't have asked for a better time for the break to hit so they can rest some bodies.  On the other hand the red hot streaking Adamville Falcons have the break coming right after a 5-0 pounding on the Grrrowl.  Hopefully for the Falcons sake they can keep this momentum after break too.  Teams like the Olchowyville Leafs and Gregville Assassines sit down and evaluate their squads to see what they have to do to make a serious playoff run.  Then the Marktown Petes take time to decide if they have any chance in hell to make the Copenhagen Cup Playoffs or if they should start scouting for next year already. Looking Ahead: SHL GM Charity Christmas  Game In The Works

The SHL has announced they are planning a chairty GM Christmas Shinny Game to take place on December 23 a day after the SHL players go on Christmas holidays.  Plans are still in the works but it looks as if the game will be held at the Birch Hills Arena. All proceeds of the game go towards the Stephan Danielson Foundation of Hope.  Stephan Danielson himseld might even suit up for the game.  All GM"s are expected to be in the game the only question marks are Trent Rumpel who has always stated he has made a family commitment in Wadena and Jesse Trach is unsure of his availability of the game.  Other celebrities joining the game could be former SHL GM's Kyle Gordon and Lee McCutcheon aswell as the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCJHL's Assistant Coach Jaret Engele.  The game should be an absolute shitshow and don't be surpised if a few fists fly between the GM's. Rumor Mill: Americans GM Trach Not Showing Up To Work

General Manager of the Trach City Americans, Jesse Trach has reportedly been missing days at the office between games.  This rumor became evidently true when Trach was not in attendance at Ken's Cresting Arena when the Americans were defeated by the Twisters 4-2 last Saturday.  This rumor would also prove true with the performance the Americans are putting out is not to shabby with what Trach has given Head Coach Patrick Roy to work with.  The league does not set a fine for this type of incident it is solely up to Trach City American President and Chief Executive Officer Tony Esposito.  This incident again can be completely a myth, we will see what comes about this matter as more information comes our way. In Review: Should Falcons Give Cherry The Blame

The blame was bestowed on Don Cherry for the Adamville Falcons worst start in franchise history, but can you really blame Cherry?  Sure he is a part of the drafting process and who they rank on there pre draft depth chart.  What the Falcons need to consider is if they need a major shake up.  Henri Richard steps in as interim Head Coach but was he running the forwards effectively as needed be prior to Cherry's firing.  GM Adam Wilkinson should take some of the blame for the poor team he drafted.  Obviously the Falcons did have the last pick in this years draft but the skilled players they did not draft such as team captain Daniel Alfredsson and speedster Martin St. Louis are not performing.  The lone bright spot is Ilya Kovalchuk, but other players will need to step up big if the Falcons want to turn this so far wreck of a season around. Looking Ahead: Different Approaches by Different Organizations
The way a coach treats you early in the season is the way you are going to respond all year.  We are not here to tell you who is right and who is wrong we are just simply noting the facts.  In Scott City Head Coach Guy Lafleur announced after the 2-1 loss to Trach City  that the Grrrrowl would be bagskated monday morning after there unsuccesful results.  In Marktown; after they were defeated 3-1 to the hands of the Gilmore Gold Jackets, the Petes finally named their Captain giving the honors to Ryan Smyth hoping to inspire the club heading into their home opener against the Grrrowl.  After losing 5-1 to the Dionland Twisters Fort Macfie Gangbang GM Craig Macfie shook the loss of easily and was quoted by saying "It doesn't matter where you are in the standings after week one. What matters is where you are after week 20." (read more)

In Review: Brantown Slammers Raise Championship Banne
rs

The final piece of the 2005-2006 season was put into place Wednesday night when the Brantown Slammers raised their Western Division and Copenhagen Cup Championship Banners to the rafters of the Brantown Communiplex.  Another thing that came to an end Wednesday night was the celebration from Slammer personnel and a reality check kicked in to get ready for a repeat of last season.  The only returning players Mats Sundin and Peter Forsberg who have been with the Slammer organization from the beginning alongside General Manager Brandon Allen were almost close to shedding tears Wednesday. ( like they did last April when they defeated Scott City) The threesomel felt the pride of Chizdale as the Banners were raised because they know how much it meant to the fans. (read more)

Looking Ahead: Must Win Games Start Day One

You wouldn't expect the first week to be so crucial for any team in any league.  But in the 2006-2007 SHL season every team is gonna be battling hoof and nail to get into the top 6 to make it to the playoffs.  So many teams mathced evenly it is going to be an all out scrap for each and every orginization to get there name onto the Copenhagen Cup.  The Associated Press picked the following winners for the season openers: Scott City to defeat Trach City, Gilmore Gold Jackets to defeat Marktown Petes, Gregville Assassines to defeat Nut Town Natives, Brantown Slammers to defeat Olchowyville Leafs, Adamville Falcons to defeat RumpyVill Roughhosers, Dionland Twisters to defeat Fort Macfie Gangbang.  It appears as if the AP is going with the favorites, however that might not be the safest bet being this is the Saskatchewan Hockey League and anything can happen; anybody can beat anybody on any given night. Rumor Mill: Trade Talks for All After Draft

Not everybody, let me rephrase that no one is set quite yet with there rosters.  Many teams rumored to be looking to make moves before this season even gets under way are the Marktown Petes, Rumpyvill Roughhosers, Scott City Grrrowl, and many more!.  Petes GM Mark Peterson is ready to get down to business being the youngest current General Manager in the league.  Peterson is presumably working on deals with Scott City, as Grrrowl GM Scott Macfie openly admits he needs a goaltender.  Roughosers GM Trent Rumpel is reported as wanting a couple more snipers in his lineup.  Don't be suprised to see the other two expansion teams swing a deal that being the Goldjackets and the Gangbang.  Another possible team looking to make some acquisitions are last years regular season champs the Dionland Twisters, Dion Berg is one of the best GM's in the league and is always lookin to solify his lineup.

Looking Ahead: What a draft, What a season in store

After perhaprs the most interesting draft in SHL history, the Saskatchewan Hockey League regular season is shaping up to be phenomenal.  All 12 teams look to be evenly matches with there strengths lying in different areas of the game based on the orginazations strategy to win a Copenhagen Cup.  We strongly believe all three expansion teams are going to fit into the mix easily with no struggling in their inaugural seasons.  Many people believe this the 4th SHL season will be the best thus far in the leagues rich history. In Review: Operation Snapshot takes over hype of Trade Deadline
ee

Brantown Slammers and Gregville Assassinites General Managers tried to pull a bluff a couple days prior to the SHL trade deadline which we all know about.  However it is sad this took over the headlines of the deadline as there was no big blockbusters and not any actoin at all really compared to the last season (2003-2004) like the Paul Kariya, Mike Modanno deal invovling the Grrrowl and the Roughhosers, as well as the Jokkinen, Hull deal between the Adamville Falcons and the now Brantown Slammers; the then Brandontown Allstars.
  To Gilmore:                     To Gregville:
Gold Jackets Ship Denis To The Assassines For Sullivan
GILMORE, GC -- Thursday afternoon Gold Jackets General Manager Hans Johansen and Gregville Assassines General Manager Greg Manson swung a deal. The Jackets sent G Marc Denis to the Assassines for RW Steve Sullivan.  Johansen reportedly has wanted Sullivan on his roster since draft day but couldn't meet the requirements that Manson wanted for Sullivan the Timmons, ON native.  The Gold Jackets have had four netminders on their squad since the second week of the season; Johansen has wanted to unload one for a while now and this trade proposal was the perfect oppurtunity to do so.  Manson is rumored now to be wanting to get rid one of his goaltenders.  Rumors have been floating around the Associated Press that Manson is in trade talks with the Grrrowl, Petes, and Gangbang.

Scott City And Gregville Involved In A Blockbuster Trade
SCOTT CITY,TC --  Some would say this is the biggest trade in the history of the SHL. The Gregville Assassines sent their 3rd overall draft pick from this years draft G Mikka Kiprusoff along with RW Ruslan Fedotenko to the Scott City Grrrowl in exchange for Rookie Superstar whom the Grrrowl drafted in the 3rd round LW Evgeni Malkin and the savvy veteran G Olaf Kolzig.  The Grrrowl are extremely happy having Kiprusoff back playing for them after he spent the 2003-2004 season with the Grrrowl.  The Assassines are also overwhelmed with the trade and the potential Malkin carries with his potent scoring ability.  This move took place hours after the Assassines acquired Mark Denis from Gilmore.  The Assassines still have four netminders and may stay put with them for a while or they could make another deal soon.
Mikka Kiprusoff can dawn his old green goalkeeping helmet now that hes a Grrrowl again.
Ovechkin Continues To Impress In Sophomore Season
FORT MACFIE,ED --  Alexander Ovechkin and the Fort Macfie Gangbang staged a 3rd period comeback but it wasn't enough as they fell 3-2 to the revamped line up of the Gregville Assassines. The top two teams in the league met at the Gatorade Centre as the Dionland Twisters fell 4-2 to the Scott City Grrrowl.  The win for the Grrrowl tied them with the Twisters for first place in the SHL.  The Gilmore Gold Jackets slipped from 3rd to 6th place as they were downed 4-2 by the visiting RumpyVill Roughhosers.  The Marktown Petes fell 6-1 to the Brantown Slammers in a game which was closer than the score indicated.  The Petes defence just had a couple of mental mistakes which led to Cam Ward having no chance against the Slammers forwards.  Another game where the game was closer then indicated was a 5-1 victory for the Olchowyville Leafs over the Nut Town Natives.  The Trach City Americans met the Adamville Falcons in a battle of cellar dwellers as they ended up deadlocked at a score of 3-3.
Slammers Starting To Show Some Promise
BRANTOWN, CD --   Last Years Copenhagen Cup Champions the Brantown Slammers continue to improve as the season progresses they moved into third place after a 5-1 win over the Gregville Assassines. Meanwhile the Scott City Grrrowl moved into soul possession of first place after a 6-0 romp over the RumpyVill Roughosers. With that the Dionland Twisters move into second place despite defeating the Trach City Americans by a score of 4-2.  In Gilmore, at Happy Place the Gold Jackets got back on track and walked all over the Olchowyville Leafs 6-0 .  In another shutout the Fort Macfie Gangbang dominated the Nut Town Natives and came out with a 5-0 victory.  The Lowly Adamville Falcons continued their slide as they dropped a 4-2 decision to the hands of the Marktown Petes at the Snuffdome.

Cherry Gets The Axe From The Falcons
ADAMVILLE, FL --  Donald S. Cherry has been involved with the Adamville Falcons organization since May of 2002.  On Monday morning the first and so far only Head Coach Don Cherry in team history was informed by Falcons President Fred Saskamoose that he was being fired.  It was announced late in the morning to the public in a media only press-conference inside the A&W Omniplex.  Assistant Coach Henri Richard will step in as interim coach now.  GM Adam Wilkinson was stated on saying they hope to have the Head Coach roll filled by early next week.  The AP also reports that Gordon Bombay is likely the leading candidate as the new head coach.  As for Cherry he has already been offered a job in the Grrrowl front office and many more offers will probably come his way.  Cherry could not lead the Falcons to a banner winning campaign in his previous three years. Olchowy,Peterson Make Asses Of Themselves At Chairty Auction
OLCHOWYVILLE, GC --  The First Annual Saskatchewan Hockey League Chairty GM Auction was held in the Elmer Olchowy Ballroom inside of the Olchowyville Spectrum Tuesday Night.  Female Bidders from across the country packed the EOB to bid for a day long date with an SHL GM.  You can see the results of who brought in the most money by clicking the picture to the left.  All proceeds went to the Stephan Danielson Speech Impediment Fund.  Following the Auction, the party begun with the beers being cracked.  The life of the party evolved around Rookie GM Mark Peterson of the Marktown Petes and Third year GM Adam Olchowy of the Olchowyville Leafs.  They sang karaokee, grinded overweight woman, and went streaking through the ballroom.  Peterson got in a fight later in the night with a man (who brought his unsatisfied wife to the auction) over an argument involving Skoal. Leafs Down Grrrowl As Twisters Move Back Into Top Spot
DIONLAND, RF -- With the help of the Olchowyville Leafs 3-2 road victory in Scott City to snap the Grrrowls six game winning streak, the Dionland Twisters regain first place in the SHL.  The Twisters did so by defeating the Marktown Petes by a score of 5-0 with Kari Lethonen earning the shutout.  The Brantown Slammers failed to gain any ground  as they tied the expansion Fort Macfie Gangbang 2-2.  The shake up in Adamville helped quite a bit with the franchises first game without Don Cherry behind the bench, interim head coach Henri Richard led the Falcons to victory as they beat the hometown Gregville Assassines 5-1.  In a seesaw affiar in Nut Town at the Infinity Centre the Natives went on to defeat the Gilmore Gold Jackets by a score of 4-3.  Yes indeed Jesse Trach showed up for the game in RumpyVill and it must of gave his Americans some sort of confidence as they skated past the Roughhosers 3-1.

Gold Jackets Squeeze A Win Out In Fort Macfie
GILMORE, GC --  The Border City Bunch out of Gilmore flew up to Fort Macfie on the weekend and were able to get past the Gangbang by a score of 3-2.  The Jackets and the Gangbang now sit in 4th and 5th place respectively in the overall league standings.  This was the second time this season two expansion teams met in action for the first time.  The final game will be when the last place Petes head into Gilmore during week 12 of the SHL season.  The Petes struggling ways continued as they were edged by the RumpyVill Roughhosers by a score of 4-3 at the Snuffdome.  Also all assault charges related to the Mark Peterson's  fighting incident at the SHL Charity Auction have been dropped.  In other action the Scott City Grrrowl moved back into top spot after defeating the Nut Town Natives 4-1 the game was a rematch of last years East Division Quarterfinals.  The Twisters fell back into second place after tying the streaky Gregville Assassines 3-3 in Dionland at the Gatorade Centre.  The Brantown Slammers stayed in their third place position, their game ended up at a score of 2-2 with the Adamville Falcons who are now 1-0-1 with Henri Richard as Head Coach.  The Trach City Americans have strung together their first consecutive wins of the season, they slipped past the Olchowyville Leafs 2-1 in a very defensive minded affair.

DIONLAND, RF -- After being deadlocked at two for most of the game Dionland broke out late in the third period with two unanswered goals winning the game 4-2 over the visiting Brantown Slammers.  The win moves Dionland back infront of the Scott City Grrrowl by one point in the SHL Standings.  The Grrrowl's move back into second was because of a loss to the hands of the Gilmore Gold Jackets.  The Jackets took the game 4-3 infront of the home crowd at Happy Place in Gilmore.  With the win the Jackets are now tied for third spot in the overall standings with the Fort Macfie Gangbang.  The Gangbang moved up in the standings with a big 5-1 win over the Adamville Falcons at home at the OK Corral Centre.
Meanwhile the Trach City Americans continue to impress, like Fort Macfie also had a big 5-1 victory, the Americans defeated Nut Town however on the road at the Infinity Centre.  The Olchowyville Leafs moved into the 6th and final playoff spot for the time being as they embarrsed the Marktown Petes 6-1 at the Olchowyville Spectrum.  In another spanking Greg Manson took his squad into the RumpyVill Sportsplex and had them destroy the Roughhosers 6-1.  The Assassines are only four points behind the Leafs for the last playoff spot, as things start to heat up in the SHL as we approach the midway point of the regular season.

Assassines Edge Out The Natives In Nut Town
NUT TOWN, ED --  In A spirited affair at the Infinity Centre in Nut Town, which invovled six fights and three major stick infractions, the Gregville Assassines were able to leave Nut Town with two points, beating the Natives 3-2.  Scott City got some revenge as they faced-off against the Trach City Americans at Kens Cresting Arena, the Americans beat the Grrrowl in the first game of the 2006-2007 season, but this time the Grrrowl came out on top winning 3-2.  The Dionland Twisters kept there ground between themselves and the first place Scott City Grrrowl as they hosted the Fort Macfie Gangbang and won by a score of 3-1.  In this game a couple smart coaching moves by the Gangbang staff and they could have had the score reversed and won 3-1 themselves.
After snapping a three game losing streak last week, the Marktown Petes took a pounding to the hands of the Gilmore Gold Jackets, the Jackets stormed into the Petes Snuffdome and beat them by a score of 6-1.  The war of words earlier in the season by the Jackets and Petes GM's had no effect on this game.  Brantown took advantage of a lackluster Olchowyville squad playing at home, the Slammers went on to beat the Leafs by a score of 4-1.  In the battle of Flexington, the Adamville Falcons were victorious 5-2 over the cross South Flexington Rivals the RumpyVill Roughhosers.  The Falcons continue to climb out of the SHL cellar and hunt for a playoff spot.

Gangbang's General Manager Craig Macfie was quoted on saying they have wanted Ward since the start of the season but never had the oppurtunity to do, Macfie thanks Zetterberg and Emery for their time spent up north in Fort Macfie with the club and wishes them both good luck with the Petes and all future endeavours
Falcons Playing With Passion As Of Late
ADAMVILLE, FL -- The Adamville Falcons earned their first back to back wins of the season as they downed the Olchowyville Leafs 4-2 at home at the A&W Omniplex which was sold out for the first team this season.  Fort Macfie had a stellar come form behind win over the visiting Trach City Americans, trailing 3-1 going into the 3rd period, the Gangbang came out with a 4-3 win.  Brantown has a win over the struggling Nut Town Natives, they won 4-1 and the Natives are now tied for the last spot in the Saskatchewan Hockey League with the Marktown Petes.  The Petes were unable to climb out of the basement  due to a 4-2 loss to the first place Scott City Grrrowl at the Petes Snuffdome.  The Gilmore Gold Jackets hosted the Gregville Assassines and Marty Turco was able to shut the Assassines out as the Jackets went on to win this one 5-0.  The Jackets are now nipping on the heals of the Grrrowl and Twisters for first place.  The Dionland Twisters tied the Scott City Grrrowl for first place after they were able to defeat the RumpyVill Roughhosers 4-1.  Things should continue to heat up between the Grrrowl, Twisters, and Gold Jackets as the play-offs get closer and closer.

Looking Ahead: Who Will Get The Sixth And Final Playoff Spot
The SHL Playoffs are looming closer and closer and with the Jackets and Slammers recently clinching playoff spots and the Twisters, Grrrowl, and Gangbang all having a solid gap between them and the sixth place Gregville Assassines, the only real question is who will be the sixth place team to make it to the Copenhagen Cup playoffs.  Gregville and Adamville have been fighting it out for that spot for past couple weeks but with Trach City only four points out, Olchowyville eight points out and Marktown ten points out.  All of these five teams have a pretty good chance of reaching the playoffs, it's all a matter of what team can gel together in the last three games and what GM can make his team better before the March 1st trade deadline.

Looking Ahead: Trade Deadline Little More Then A Month Away

With the All-Star Break all said and done it only means one thing; the stretch run.  With the stretch run comes one important date; March 1st the date of the SHL Trade Deadline.  With this comes some important decision lie ahead for SHL General Managers.  Which teams should keep there team chemistry as is and which teams should make a blockbuster or two to make a serious run for the Copenhagen Cup.  Marktown Petes GM Mark Peterson realizes his squad is 20 points out of a playoff spot but if Ray Emery can stand on his head it isn't realistic if they pick up another sniper or two for them to squeeze into the playoffs. Over confident GM Dion Berg has to consider whether his currently first place squad is strong enough to last in the playoffs or crash and burn like they did in last years postseason.  Adamville Falcons GM Adam Wilkinson has to look at if the hot streak his team is on will last or if they need more help to hold onto the 6th and final playoff spot which they are in posession of right now.  Things should get very interesting.

Joe Thornton, Marian Hossa, and Mikka Kiprusoff all shun at home infront of the Scott City faithful at the Great Eastern Forum in the 2nd Annual All-Star Game.  Mikka Kiprusoff shut out the Western Division in the first period of the game he played until Roberto Luongo took over for him.  Marian Hossa was able to notch two goals, and Joe Thornton picked up four goals earning himself All-Star Game MVP honors.  After winning All-Star Game MVP in last year's game; Alexander Ovechkin was only able to get a single goal in this years game. Scott City put on quite the show and the bidding for next years All-Star Game should begin, most likely the game will be held in a Western Division city after two straight All-Star Games being held in Eastern Division cities.

Don't be surprised to see the other two expansion teams swing a deal that being the Gold Jackets and the Gangbang.  Another possible team looking to make some acquisitions is last years regular season champions the Dionland Twisters; Dion Berg is one of the best GM's in the league and is always lookin to solidify his lineup.

Looking Ahead: What A Draft, What A Season In Store For The SHL

After perhaprs the most interesting draft in SHL history, the Saskatchewan Hockey League regular season is shaping up to be phenomenal.  All 12 teams look to be evenly matches with there strengths lying in different areas of the game based on the orginazations strategy to win a Copenhagen Cup.  We strongly believe all three expansion teams are going to fit into the mix easily with no struggling in their inaugural seasons.  Many people believe this the 4th SHL season will be the best thus far in the leagues rich history.
