THE ASSOCIATED PRESS PRESENTS THE 2006-2007 SHL POWER RANKINGS |
12th: Nut Town Natives |
A young lackluster squad with a dull management staff that never showed any improvement last year. Late last year they made some bad moves such as the deal that sent Brind'Amour to the Grrrowl for Daniel Sedin. The Associated Press feel the Natives dont have much hope unless Spezza can somehow take the league by storm. The Associated Press states look for the Natives to finish in the basement of the SHL. |
11th: Olchowyville Leafs |
Three years in the SHL and the Leafs have always had a stellar squad but with a shotty staff the Leafs have not done anything with there stars. Again with all-stars in the lineup such as Jagr returning for the 3rd year in a row, and unbelievable goaltending in the likes of Martin Brodeur and Matheiu Garon the Associated Press points out they still will need a management shake up in the near future to have any chance of making the playoffs. |
10th: Gregville Assassines |
Mikka Kiprusoff is going to be the beat goalie in the league this year. However with only one prominent scorer in Markus Naslund the Assassines look sub-par. Assasines GM Greg Manson never did much last year to help his team, especially getting in trouble in Operation Snapshot which we would all like to forget. He did show some promise towards the end of the season in the betterment of his team. The Associated Press feels he will need to do this all season to help his squad out if he wants to get into the Copeny Cup. |
9th: Marktown Petes |
With all of the heart and promise this entire organization shows from the President down to the stick-boy they should be able to do alright. With no outstanding stars and a young netminder in Cam Ward hoping to lead the way between the pipes they may be in for a tough time getting points on the scoreboard. The Associated Press feels however young General Manager Mark Peterson may make some inexperience moves during the season enroute to them eventually missing the Copenhagen Cup as much as Peterson wants it. |
8th: Brantown Slammers |
Guess who's back in Brantown, that's right Peter Forsberg and Mats Sundin what a surpise. They still have a strong team this year and even with the playoffs Sundin had last season earning him the SHL Playoff MVP the Slammers may have a tough time this year. The league has added two more teams and has more depth and with every single SHL team gunning for last years Copenhagen Cup Champions the Associated Press feels it's neccessary for the Slammers to change there team make up if they want to repeat as League Champions. |
7th: Trach City Americans |
The Associated Press notes that the Trach City Americans were the hardest team to rank this season. They have some unbelieveable offensince power consisting of Heatley, Lecavalier, Iginla, Bergeron and Havlat. They don't have much on the blueline however and with a mediocore goaltending core Jesse Trach has some work to do. That was the problem last year Jesse Trach was too busy, but with a recent divorce to his now ex-wife Brianna Panchyson the Americans have a good chance to make the playoffs it's just a question of how bad the Americans want it. |
6th: Fort Macfie Gangbang |
The Associated Press out of any team know the least about the Fort Macfie Gangbang organazation and especially where they got that team name. They do have the leagues potential leading scorer in Russian Sophomore Superstar Alexander Ovechkin who will put up some solid numbers for the Gangbang. They might have one of the stronger defensive cores in the league which includes Scott Niedermayer. This should be enough to get the team in the playoffs but look for an early post-season exit from the expansion Fort Macfie Gangbang. |
5th: Adamville Falcons |
The longest existing franchise in the SHL without a banner hanging in there arena the Falcons have an impressive squad this year. They have a potent lineup with Daniel Alfreddson leading the way with Kovalchuk and St. Louis following not to far behind. Christobal Huet could be one of the biggest stories of the year and they need him to shut the door if they want to raise a banner in the A&W Omniplex during next years home opener. The Associated Press wants the Falcons to snag a reliable goalie and a premier defensemen early into the year if they want a shot at the Copenhagen Cup in the 2006-2007 campaign |
4th: Gilmore Gold Jackets |
This expansion team shows alot of promise with Patrick Elias, Eric Staal and Brad Richards rounding out the top line. There defence should lead the league in helpers. Marty Turco will be the starting goalie for the Jackets and will challenge Kiprusoff this season for the leagues Top Goaltender Crown. The Associated Press have alot of inside insight that General Manager Hans Johansen knows how to make great moves. The team needs a little more depth on the blueline for them to become a even bigger contender than they are already to win the Copenhagen Cup in their inauguaral season in the Saskatchewan Hockey League. |
3rd: Scott City Grrrowl |
Joe Thornton, it's as simple as that. Defending last year's scoring crown shouldn't be a problem for Thornton. Marian Hossa and rookie Evgeni Malkin have the potential to also be in the leagues top 10 scoring easily if they stay injury prone. The Associated Press notes they would probably rank the Grrrowl first overall if it wasnt for there so far terrible goaltending core. Even with the addition of veteran Olaf Kolzig they are still shaky between the pipes and for the Grrrowl to win their third Eastern Division Championship and their first Copenhagen Cup they will need to trade a valuable member of their offence for a superb goalie before Santa Claus comes. |
2nd: Rumpyvill Roughhosers |
When the Rumpyvill GM Trent Rumpel inked distant relative Brent Frumpel as Head Coach for the 06-07 season it made an immediate impact on the orginazation who haven't been succesful since they won the Copenhagen Cup in the leagues first year. There team isn't the best on paper, but if you look deep into the make up and chemistry of this team it simply spells out the letter W. The Associated Press realizes Trent Rumpel will do everything in his power for Frumpel to have the players he wants in the lineup that are willing and capable of taking this team to the League Finals and possibly becoming the leagues first two time champion of the elusive Copenhagen Cup. |
1st: Dionland Twisters |
A phenomenal team all-around. They have young snipers Sydney Crosby, Rick Nash, Marian Gaborik and Pavel Datsyuk. Also the Twisters have a rough and tough D-core lead by Jovocop they should be able put some points on the scoresheet this season. They have a tiny questionmark in goal but all three goaltenders; Cloutier, Theodore, and Lethonen are capable of taking this team to its third consecutive regular season crown. The thing everyone in Ranchford is worried about is the fact that there Twisters might have another meltdown in the playoffs. The Associated Press feels Syd The Kid along with Rick Nash can easily help this team through the first round if they dont earn a bye and most likely through the semi finals. What they need however is a veteran sniper who can lead this team to earning there second Copenhagen Cup Championship. |
