An Article From The Bergland Breeze
BERGLAND, ED - The Iceholes battled adversity all year; starting the year slowly, finding themselves in the SHL basement at the midway point of the season. They were able to climb all the way up to third place to earn their right to have home ice advantage against the sixth place Fort Macfie Gangbang. The Cinderella story Fort Macfie Gangbang remained on their high from barely making the playoffs and dominated the Iceholes. Fort Mac went on to sweep the series 4-0. The Gangbang had a balanced attack led by veteran Daniel Alfredsson and emerging youngster Steven Stamkos. Nobody showed up to play for the Iceholes except SHL leading goal scorer Alex Ovechkin and fellow superstar Zach Parise.
Craig Macfies Gangbang will go on to face the Gregville Assassins. Derek Berg will join his brother and fellow GM Dion at the Birch Hills Golf and Country Club. Fort Mac had never won a playoff game going into the quarters. Gregville has only played in one playoff series, back in 2005 when they lost out in the quarters to the Adamville Falcons.
In the other quarter-final series, the Brantown Slammers eliminated the RumpyVill Roughousers 4-2. When asked in an interview following the second period of the final game, housers GM Trent Rumpel stated Not putting up numbers is an understatement, this is fucking ridiculous. Goaltending is the only question the Slammers have going into the semis after having a well-rounded attack highlighted by big numbers from Shane Doan and Evgeni Malkin.
The Slammers will face-off against the Scott City Grrrowl in the other semi-final series. The Slammers and Grrrowl have played twice before in the playoffs with Brantown winning both. Brantown beat Scott City in the 2005 Copenhagen Cup Finals and the 2006 semi-finals. However, The Grrrowl won the season series against Brantown 2-0 with 3-1 and 5-2 wins. |
