| Lecavalier Selected First Overall In Draft To The Gold Jackets |
| An Article From The Fort Macfie Today's Harry Doyle FORT MACFIE, ED -- The defending Copenhagen Cup Champions Gilmore Gold Jackets were granted the first overall pick in the 2007-2008 draft and with it the Gold Jackets selected the leading goal scorer from last season and former Trach City American Vincent Lecavalier. RumpyVill had the second overall pick in the draft and selected last years first overall pick Joe Thornton. Sidney Crosby who many thought was a shoe-in for the first overall pick in the draft went to the expansion Harperbeach Harpoons. The other expansion club for this season the Bergland Iceholes followed with the fourth pick and selected Dany Heatley. The Fort Macfie Gangbang picked the first goalie in the draft selecting Roberto Luongo. The runner-ups of last years Copenhagen Cup final the Brantown Slammers drafted Russian sniper Alexander Ovechkin. The Dionland Twisters then had the seventh overall pick and used it to acquire RW Jarome Iginla. The eighth selection in the draft went to the three-time consecutive Eastern Division Championships the Scott City Grrrowl whom used it to pick up their leading scorer from last season Marian Hossa. Gregville then used their 9th pick to also retain a familiar player to the organization acquiring last years SHL rookie of the year Evgeni Malkin. Three goalies then went to the final three teams remaining in the first round. Olchowyville Leafs GM Adam Olchowy was extremely happy picking up Mikka Kiprusoff tenth overall. Last years SHL Goalie of the Year Martin Brodeur was then selected by original six franchise the Adamville Falcons eleventh overall. The Marktown Petes then surprised everybody picking up Cam Ward as the twelfth overall pick to finish the first round. The flight mix up at The Fort Macfie airport which caused the draft to be held a day later than scheduled and kept Gilmore Gold Jackets GM Hans Johansen and Gregville Assassines GM Greg Manson from arriving at all to the draft was highly criticized. With the exception of the flight issue the 2007-2008 draft in Fort Macfie was a success and everybody is looking forward to the season kicking off in week one. |
