SCOTT CITY AND FORT MAC TO MEET
IN 2009 COPENHAGEN CUP FINALS
An Article From Dickie Dunn of the Scott City Sun

GREGVILLE, HC For the first time in three years the Brantown Slammers will not make an appearance in the SHL Copenhagen Cup Final.  The Slammers were eliminated in Game 7 of their series against the Grrrowl after being shutout by rookie Brian Elliot in the seventh and deciding game.  Brantown had made three consecutive Copenhagen Cup Final appearances, winning their first back in 2005 against the Grrrowl.  The crowds in Scott City along the Green Mile erupted Sunday evening when the game ended and the Grrrowl officially had their berth in the Copenhagen Cup Final.

Scott City hasnt appeared in a Copenhagen Cup Final since 2005.  The win was especially sweet for Scott City after being eliminated twice before in the playoffs by Brantown; once in the finals in 2005 and the other in the semi-finals in 2006.  Scott City has never before won a Copenhagen Cup.  Greene Street in downtown Scott City dubbed The Green Mile by Grrrowl faithful will be packed for the remaining two weeks of action.

Grrrowl GM Scott Macfie commented after the game seven win you just have that feeling across the city that this is our year, especially after that magical performance on Sunday from (Brian) Elliot.  We built a strong team on draft day and have built around the core throughout the season, making some acquisitions we are proud of and things have gelled together perfectly.  We havent lost in seventeen games but there still is one more win we need.  Those last seventeen games dont matter; its this one that counts.

To face GM Scott Macfie and his Grrrowl will be the rival Eastern Division squad, the Fort Macfie Gangbang.  This will mark the first time in league history two teams managed by brothers will face each other in the Copenhagen Cup Final.

The Fort Macfie Gangbang organization has had a Cinderella run thus far, much like that of the Dionland Twisters story last year.  The Gangbang snuck into the playoffs on the final day of the regular season.  They upset the third place Bergland Iceholes by sweeping them in the quarter-finals.  Then on the weekend they eliminated the second place Gregville Assassins winning the series four games to one.

The Gangbang dominated the play throughout the sereies.  Fort Macs playmaking ability and timely scoring is a definite threat to the Grrrowl.  There only blemish throughout the series against Gregville was giving up shorthanded goals.

They have eliminated the third and second place teams now only the first place team stands in their way.  If Steve Mason can shutout a game or two the Gangbang definitely have a chance to conclude their Cinderella run.

The Copenhagen Cup Final commences Monday March 30 at the Great Eastern Forum in Scott City.
