| This is one that I wrote back in high school as a journal assignment. The assignemt was to look at a picture and then write about that picture for ten minutes. Before you laugh too hard please keep in mind that I did write these a long time ago. Later on in college I added to it, continuing them as "journal entries" written by one of the "survivors." I'll be adding some of those too. Hope you like. | ||||||||||||||||||
| The clouds are dark again. That means another storm. A couple more like the ones we've been having and our city will be no more. Floods have already taken our two neighbors. I don't know for sure what other cities are left, or if there are any others. This ones barely left. Sure, it might look like it's in good condition in the dark, and from a distance, but it's not. Up close you can see the gaping holes in once solid walls. Houses completely ruined. I'm sure that in the bright sunlight you'd see how ruined it really looks. But we never have sunlight anymore. For at least a year we haven't seen the faintest trace of the sun, or even a star. We don't see even the faintest glimmer, and we miss it. Well, at least it's over. The sound of fighting hasn't been heard for a year. I can't say I'm sorry that it's over, because I'm not. I'm sorry it ever started. There are so few of us now. Two hundred fifty people where once there were twenty thousand. Many people are now sterile for some reason. Eleven babies have been born, and all but one died. That one has been sick since birth, and is not expected to live much longer. If you were to ask me, I'd say that the future looks about as dark as those clouds overhead. How long can the human race last with mostg people sterile? And all babies that are born, born dead? One of our other concerns at the moment is getting power back on. We've had it so long, that life is hard without it. We're starting to lose hope that we will regain power. If we do survive, let this be a lesson to our descendents. But I don't think it will be. By the time the human race is once again big enough for nuclear weapons, then what's happening now will be laughed at as a stupid tale, a myth. I wouldn't be surprised if tfhis happened again. |
