Young Robert did it.  A lot of it was luck.  A bunch of people whom we consider to be the experts on plants went out foraging.  For five days they were gone, him with them.  When they returned they had every plant that couldn't be identified (and there are now many that can't.  It seems that plants as well have mutated, presenting new types of plants.)  There was one, what looks to be perhaps mutated roses, quite fragrant.  Robert placed them in the "sick room", thinking that they might make things better for those attending the patients.  Their scent covered the smell of the sick.  Then with the other healers they set about breaking down the plants, and examining them against the bacteria infecting Jarla and Anne.  It was when Robert checked on the patients that he noticed a slightly better color to them.  He coudln't explain it at first, but then he thought that maybe the mutated roses might have something to do with it.  They worked on breaking down that plant, don't ask me how they do that, I couldn't say.  They tested the result against the bacteria cultures they had.  The bacteria died.
The foraging party went back out and collected many more of the rose plants.  They made a powder out of it, and treated Jarla and Anne.  They are both making a remarkable recovery.  I am happy about that, and can't wait to see Jarla again.  I wasn't allowed anywhere near the sick room, since I'm pregnant.  They wouldn't risk anything happening to my unborn child.
Robert finally has allowed himself to sleep.  Now the apprentices are overseeing the patients, as their recovery seems certain.
There is something else remarkable that has happened.  How it happened, or why, I couldn't say.  Perhaps debris floating around the atmosphere, or passing space junk pulled into orbit, I don't know.  We still find ourselves standing outside gaping up at the night sky.  It appears to be about half the size of the original moon.  While it's been evident for a while, we never really took much notice of it, we were too preoccupied with the threat of this new illness.  But now, in it's fullness, there is no denying it.  Another moon now orbits our planet. It is weird.  Strange times have definitely begun.
