Things seem to be improving.  I would like to say that last nights actions solved everything, but that wouldn't be true.  We had devised a simple activity, which we announced as the first annual awards.  I don't know what it is, but even now mankind seems to have a liking for awards.  A lot of grumbling that had been going on when the nightly gathering began was quieted by that announcement.

Our society has developed quite a field of jobs.  We have our healers, our musicians, or woodworkers....I think you get the idea.  One thing we noticed was that the majority of the top people in each of the fields were steriles.  I don't know if that's because they felt they had something to prove so worked harder, or if it was just a weird coincidence.  But for our needs, that plan presented itself at the best time.  So, with great ceremony, we started our little awards ceremony.

We weren't the only ones to notice the fact that most of the recepients were steriles.  Robert, of course, was presented with the award for healer, being the best of the bunch, having even exceeded his teachers.  He's fertile, but nobody begrudged him the right to the award.  His was presented first, followed rapidly by all the others.  With the exception of one, all other recepients were steriles.

We'd been working on building several new buildings, as the majority in our once fine city were badly damaged, many beyond reasonable repair.  While they were nothing fancy, each of the recepients of the awards were thrilled to find themselves the proud new owners of our newest houses.  That was, although anybody reading this in future years might find it hard to believe, one of the best things we could have given them.  Most of us, despite massive repairs and other things done, were still more or less bunched together in what i guess you could call community housing.  Now they would be the first to have their own space, which accorded them privacy, and almost instant status increase.

We've decided that this awards thing will be a yearly event, although i'm sure we won't be awarding houses every year, but this year I think it's the best for easing the fears of many of our community.

It seemed to work.  The steriles couldn't help but notice that the honors were almost all theirs, and the other Ferts couldn't complain because they had to admit that the choices were excellently made.  So I think our little plan worked, and peace, of a sort, has returned.  I wish it had happened before we lost some groups of people, but we're only human after all, and mistakes will be made.

With the nights planned festivities over, I would like to say that things wound down quickly, but they didn't.  A rather large group of people moved the festivities from one new house to another, until they'd all been visited and "broken" in.  But quiet finally did return.

Krystyl is now screaming to be fed, so I must away for now.  Till the morrow then, peace be with you.
