The South African Chemical and Biological Warfare Programme
The South African Chemical and Biological Warfare Programme is undertaking research on South Africa's Chemical and Biological Warfare (CBW) programme that was established during the apartheid era. This research programme seeks to deepen understanding of the creation, development and implementation of the CBW programme, and to contribute to international efforts to prevent the proliferation of chemical and biological weapons.
This programme is building on investigations undertaken by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). The research is currently being conducted by those responsible for the TRC investigation.
One of the major activities of the project is to monitor the criminal trial of Dr. Wouter Basson, the project leader of South Africa's CBW programme.
Weekly trial reports have been prepared by Chandré Gould and Marlene Burge
