The Sanctuary
The Sanctuary was created around 3,000 BCE (Before Common Era) it started off as six concentric rings of timber uprights, these were later replaced by a set of double stone circles. Today only the stone holes remain as the site was destroyed in the 18th Centuary. Before it was destroyed a man named William Stukeley made a drawing of it, he believed that the Sanctuary represented the head of a giant stone serpent.
