25.09.08 – O’Carrolls 3 – 3 Volcanics
Drew 3-3 last Thursday, usual suspects lined up - think a few were still
feeling the affects of Fiji - and myself feeling the affects of not going and
being pounced on by a rampant Mr. Tancell. Thankfully the only pouncing last
night was on the pitch. Volcanics had another team on the bench and had
certainly improved, 4 wins out of 4 was no fluke. They took the lead, then Gus
scored, followed by one from myself. They equalised, then Nev ‘the Toe’ scored.
With a minute left they equalised again. Very competitive game, and a new rival
for sure, think they will be up there again next time.
James Nutt
So another victory for the lads and it was
great for the soul for this one to go all the way to the final whistle of the
final game – nothing like a bit of competition! James Nutty Nutt Nutt finishes
top of the scoring charts with a whopping 25 goals, the highest number scored
by an individual in any round of ten games, and it leaves him only two goals
off the milestone of 100 indoor goals - fantastic record! It also sees OC’s
only eight goals shy of 500 indoor goals – don’t think it will be too long
before we reach that target. With all the talk of outscoring the opposition
lately, I was curious to see if we’d scored more goals this round than any
before and I was surprised to find it didn’t even make it into the top three.
Topping the list came the Autumn round back in 2007 with 66 goals, Tancell
topped the scoring charts with 15 that time. Second was the Summer round of
2007 with 52 goals, James grabbing 16. And beating the last round into fourth
spot by a solitary goal comes the Winter round of 2005 when we scored 48 goals,
Gibbo and Nev shared the accolades with 12 goals each. The lowest scoring round
was our inaugural term at the Y when we scored a measly 16 goals, Dave Edge
coming out on top with 7 goals. So what I’m trying to say is, James, get your
thumb out next round!

18.09.08 – O’Carrolls 5 – 1 Genhack
Big crowd for this
one on the eve of the trip - myself, Gaz, Matt and Dan were in the stands. To
be truthful we never came out of first gear. Mr. Nutt scored the first goal
with a clinical RIGHT foot shot (no spelling mistake there - RIGHT FOOT).
He had a blinder of a game; was megged in both the first and second halves -
sandwiched in between a second left foot goal. He also managed to miss a
penalty which was blazed over. Other second half goals followed from Nev and
Paddy to go with Tancell’s left foot finish in the first half. Tancy spread the
ball around well but he was no Dan Bradley. I think Nev played too.

18.09.08 – O’Carrolls 5 – 1 Genhack
Next weeks sees OC’s meet Volcanics in a
title-deciding fixture. Both sides are level on 12 points, but OC’s
free-scoring striker James Nutt has played a large part in the lads having a
+10 better goal difference than our opponents. So in the event that the lads
are still suffering from a trip to Fiji (which is highly likely) a draw should
still see them through - I’ll be expecting a match report. In eight previous
meetings, two draws are the only points Volcanics have taken off OC’s. The last
three meetings went 2-0, 5-0 & 2-2.

04.09.08 – O’Carrolls 2 – 1 Hamstrung United
Well with the
Premier League having a week off for international football it was off to the
YMCA for the clash of the week – O’Carrolls v Hamstrung. I’d heard we had a
goal machine and a guy that resembled Del Piero - I had to check them out for
myself.
The first half was
a struggle to say the least with Hamstrung striking the cross bar twice, Gus getting
megged and Paddy trying to resemble one of the seven dwarfs - it was hard to
choose which one - so I went with Sleepy! Half time 0-0.
I was hoping for an improved second half performance - it started much the same
as the first - but Gus didn’t get megged. Hamstrung took the lead as the ball
was played harmlessly through the middle and Sleepy lifted his foot for the
ball to disappear underneath, leaving the Hamstrung tricky striker through on
goal and he made no mistake. The next seven minutes were all Hamstrung - they
seemed to have a extra man – I think that was more to do with no one tracking
their players though. Richie pulled of three or four great saves to keep OC's
in it. With four minutes left Dan Bradley found himself in an unfamiliar
position and placed the ball home via the post and the keepers back (own
goal??). 1-1.
The game seemed to change now and OC's got on top - the winning goal followed
shortly after with a great finish from Gus - smashing it high past the
motionless keeper. Not the best of performances BUT A WIN’S A WIN. James'
left peg was off target tonight - I’m sure he will score six next week when I
will be back to couch duties.
Back to OC's after
for a drink (only cranberry for me). I left before the fun started - Sleepy was
challenged to an arm wrestle WITH A BIRD. Over to Bradley for the report
on that one.
Tim Eddison
Hamstrung will have been gutted to lose that
game, the 20th meeting between the sides, as they lose by the same score line
as last time we met (James & Paddy on target that game). The record against
Hamstrung now looks like so - Played:20 OC’s:13 Hamstrung:2 Draw:4 Abandoned:1.
It’s also now fourteen games without defeat; the only dropped points in that
run coming in a 1-1 draw against Sverge back in July.
I’ve added a Premier League injury table to the
website for the benefit of everybody playing Fantasy Football this season –
hope it’s of use.
