Yikes! Have heard absolutely nothing about this game – no doubting the boys were gutted. The unbeaten run record now stands at 26 games and it’s there to be beaten.

So James scores the landmark 400th goal by an OC’s player at the YMCA; it also takes our total goals scored to 411! That’s an average of just under 4 goals a game – a terrific record. Next week it’s Hamstrung.

League Cup Quarter final draw has been made, OC’s face Bohemian Celtic on July 13th at Seddon Fields. We’ll meet them twice in the space of a week - the league fixture is pencilled in for July 20th.

Won 5-1 last night, went one nil down. Tancy stepped up between the sticks and pulled off some outstanding saves, keeping us in the game. Also Jobba made a return to the team, with some good defending and, for his standards, passing was good. I pulled one back, then Paddy scored a great individual goal, running from deep inside our half and finishing, with I believe his left foot. I scored two more, one a follow up with my right, after Gus hit the post and then a one two with Gus. In the last minute I returned the favour and gave Gus a pass to score, he was feeling left out I think!”

As the FA Cup has proved this season, when it comes to a straight knock out nothing can be taken for granted. With this in mind O’Carroll’s embarked on the defence of their crown away at 2nd Division Roving Star.

Previous meetings between the two sides had given OC’s reason to be confident, but in light of last week’s disappointment, nothing short of 100% effort would ensure progress, or pacify an ever excitable touch line, who continued to turn out in numbers despite the changeable conditions.

Rumours were abound prior to kick off as to potential sweeping changes to the side that had faded so badly last Sunday, but in eventuality it was left to the Scousers to steal their way into the starting eleven. The evergreen and energetic Nev partnering the bizzo up front, while Duncan stepped into the centre of midfield in place of Redsy (who was possibly dropped for doing his best to break Tancy’s favourite wrist at training days earlier). This allowed Tow-Truck to occupy his (allegedly) favoured position, just in front of Hirdy with the Scot/Kiwi/Maori spraying balls round the back of him.

With the game under way OC’s quickly set the pace with plenty of possession in the Star’s half, though their inability to make it count allowed an element of frustration to creep in which went some way to dampen the momentum. Despite some good football being played, it took the award of a penalty to allow OC’s to make their domination count, James managing to nip in ahead of the defender who rather clumsily, brought him down. Jim quickly dusted himself off though, and despite a late run by Bidcom, stepped up to dispatch the penalty himself.

The break through injected some much needed verve into OC’s play, and with RS still recovering, some great work down the left gave Nick the chance to guide in a second with a deft finish. With Paddy supporting James at every given opportunity OC’s continued to threaten down the left, and it was no surprise when James again supplied the ammunition, this time for Nevchenko, to put the game to bed, albeit at the second time of asking. Just reward for some stellar efforts in training.

The second half called for more of the same from OC’s, with almost the entire half played in their opponents territory. With such domination often comes complacency however, and their was certainly a lack of killer instinct in their play until Gus lashed in a thunderous fourth with a shot that left many to wonder why he spurned so many opportunities to shoot earlier in the game.

With the job done for the front two, Nick and Nev made way for the flame haired combination of Dan G and Redsy and Jobba stepped into the centre of the park in place of the tireless Duncan as the gaffer took the chance to utilise his vast squad.

It was with great surprise to all involved when the unlikeliest of all the subs popped up with number five, Jobba trundling late into the area to coolly side foot through a crowd into the bottom corner after a goal mouth scramble.

All that was left was for James to round off a Man Of The Match performance with his 2nd and OC’s sixth. A rocket of a free kick around a dubiously placed wall, who were somewhat upset by the presence of an over weight centre back asking James to nutmeg him.

All in all, a comfortable start to this seasons competition for the holders, although sterner tests will undoubtedly lie ahead if they are to retain their trophy.

image002.jpg        13.05.08           6-A-SIDE RESULT 08.05.08 – O’Carrolls 1 – 1 Sverge

The second consecutive draw against the men in yellow, the 399th goal scored at the YMCA by an OC’s player, and the 25th game in a row without defeat – a new record for the 6-A-Side team. No real surprise that James was the scorer; he’s been top scorer for each of the last three rounds and hasn’t been outside the top two since he started playing for us. What does surprise me is the absence of the Inter lads – what’s happened there? James gave me a few words on the game below. Next week, it’s Hold The Phone.

“Not the best game, they were happy to have 5 players in their half constantly, went 1-0 down. I scored and we hit the post once or twice, they were over the moon with the result and the old boy at the back wanted some aggro at the end.”

I don’t anticipate a match report for OC’s first defeat in the league since we started in the AFSA, so I’m sure Bohs won’t mind me directing you to their own account of the game. Click here.
