29.07.08 POSTPONED – O’Carrolls
FC v Zimbabwe Warriors
Ok well first
things first... congratulations to Nev and Cindy on their engagement – the party
at the Bluestone Room was brilliant! Big thanks from all the lads.
NELLY OF THE WEEK click here
Last weeks Nelly - Matt was
originally the Nelly but the decision has changed and been awarded to TUCK
SHOP KID - Dan Green's new nickname - he ate a Snickers before the game and two
more during it before coming on a second half sub. So the vote was for utter
GREED.
THIS WEEK THE HEAVENS OPENED AND
ALL THE GAMES WERE CALLED OFF.
Quotes of the Week
Tim – “Lets meet at the Domain at 12pm. Where??? Oooppss Seddon...”
Richie - Played his first game for a while on Thursday night and kept a clean
sheet (saving 18 shots... YEAH RIGHT!)
Gus – “I’m back playing 5-a-side and we saw the difference!!” Self-proclaimed
provider! [Isn’t it
6-A-Side...?]
Jobba - Late to the pub on Sunday and getting fined $5 dollars. "That’s
pathetic". Thanks mate.
Hirdy - SINGING for the Aussies on Saturday night - or singing whatever anyone
asked him to. BAAAAAAAAAAAA - very sheepish
Stu - "OK ONE MORE FOR TASTE RICHIE". 5 pints later, Dirty Old Town
rings out. Ha ha ha ha

29.07.08 6-A-SIDE RESULT
24.07.08 – O’Carrolls 5 – 0 Sverge
Won 5-0 last
Thursday, at last beat them, they still found time to have a moan and kept five
players in their own half even at 4-0 down. Anyway some of the big guns were
back; the massive presence of Richie in the net and big Welton in the middle
helped us immensely to wrap up a convincing win. Goals from Nev, me (3) (one of
which was from the right boot which deserves a mention) and another from Paddy
Del Piero (he must be getting close to you?!!!). And a clean sheet from Richie
O'Neill. All in all, a great start to the new campaign.

22.07.08 LEAGUE RESULT 20.07.08
– Bohemian Celtic 1 2 – 1 O’Carrolls FC
Well where to start - we
controlled the game for 75 minutes, just couldn’t find the killer second goal.
Nev struck in the first half with a Nevchenko type finish, rounding the keeper
and slotting home. With 15 minutes to go Bohs scored twice and pinched the win
- two more soft goals but a fantastic perfoormance by the lads. Even Bohs agreed
we had 75% of the possession. So 2-1 to Bohs again... 1 nil up again!

16.07.08 6-A-SIDE RESULT
10.07.08 – O’Carrolls 5 – 1 HSBC AFC
OC's came up
against relative newcomers HSBC last Thursday in what turned out to be a
comfortable victory to clinch top spot in the league. Matt was in goal with
Jobba, Paddy, Duncan, Bradley and Nev in front of him - Nev back to his old
position of striker and hoping to live up to his nickname 'Nevchenko'.
From the
kick off it was clear to see OC's were a class above the lads from HSBC,
passing the ball about confidently and making the odd opening but with no end
product. The goals were to come and as it's nearly a week since the game I
can't really remember too much about them or in what order they came!!!
Goal scorers
were Nev and Duncan with a brace each and one from Jobba. Things I can
remember from the game were Jobba shooting just about every time he got the
ball in defence; one of them had to go in eventually!! Nev toe bunging a
beauty well wide from the 2nd half kick off, back to the good old days
there - he did score a couple of well taken goals though to be fair. Will Jimmy
'Goal Machine' Nutt be able to dislodge the Scouser from his favoured strikers
role?? Probably. Paddy made quite a few good runs with the ball but obviously
had a distorted view of the game as he later claimed to have set up 4 of
the goals - I'll give him 1, 2 absolute max!!!!
Anyway, all
in all a good win - job done. Well done lads.

15.07.08 PREM/2ND DIVISION CUP QUARTER FINAL RESULT
13.07.08 - O’Carrolls FC 1 - 2 Bohemian Celtic 1 (aet)
1-1 after normal time
- we took the lead AGAIN against Bohs throuugh Stu and couldn’t hang on! Bohs
scored direct from a corner and then the winner in extra time came from another
mistake when we held onto the ball for too long.
I reckon this is
the longest ever a player in an OC's shirt hasn’t won a game for - Stu hasn’t
been involved in a winning team this year. Played 4, drew 3 and lost 1. In fact
we also drew in the Charity Shield WHEN STU WAS PLAYING.
HIRDY - that’s the
pot calling the kettle - everyone else "calling the kettle what
Hirdy?" I DONT KNOW... lol spaz!
Hirdy and his 6-A-Side story – Hirdy’s birthday on Friday night in OC's - I got
the same story six times about his 6-A-Side love affair with
Duncan. Winning 2-0 at half time with Hirdy on the pitch and then losing
5-3 with Duncan on for the 2nd half. That’s the shorter version of a VERY VERY
boring story. Cheers Hirdy.
Also Richie's $100 bet with a HAMMERED relative of Bundy and Lou - you had to
be there really as Richie hammered him 7-3 at table football. No payment but
like true MANCS Tancy and Bradley managed to get a free drink out of him.

Thanks Tim...
So a second defeat at the hands of Bohs this
season, and by the exact same narrow scoreline. It’s clear that’s there is very
little between the sides and we’ll get another shot at them next week when we
meet in the league at Keith Hay Park - will it be a matter of third time lucky?
6-A-Side fixtures for the next round are up and
guess who our first opponents are...? Yup, Sverge. Sure to be a classic
encounter!
On the subject of 6-A-Side, could SOMEBODY
bloody tell me who scored the two goals against Scudders back in May!!! I’ve
had to ask three times now, it’s taking the piss. And I need the scorers from last
Thursdays win against HSBC AFC also. Could somebody take their thumb out of
their ass and email me! Cheers.

10.07.08 STATISTIC
I did promise some stats a few weeks ago, so
here is something to get the ball rolling.
In hindsight, these are pretty obvious, but if
nothing else they highlight the step up in quality once you get into the higher
divisions.
Division 5 2005 Season – scored on average a
goal every 20 minutes of football played; conceded on average a goal every 252
minutes of football played (13 games, 1 default win)
Division 4 2006 Season – scored one every 17
minutes; conceded one every 158 minutes (14 games)
Division 2 2007 Season – scored one every 23
minutes; conceded one every 115 minutes (14 games)
Division 1 2008 Season – scored one every 31
minutes; conceded one every 80 minutes (8 games to date)
More interesting statistics to come, feel free
to send on anything yourselves.

05.07.08 6-A-SIDE RESULT
03.07.08 – O’Carrolls 1 – 1 Sverge
Last night
O'Carrolls came up against long time opponents, and sometimes bogey team,
Sverge in what turned out to be an 'interesting' game to say the
least. OC's lined up with Matt in goal, Paddy, Gibbo,
Nev, James and Lawrence (James's brother) outfield - a somewhat
unfamiliar team missing influential figures (self proclaimed) such as
Richie, Tancy and Gus.
Anyway, I was
a few minutes late, not due to picking Tancy up as was rumoured but heavy
traffic, and missed the kick off. When I arrived it was 1-0 to the
OC's, Richie informing me that the goal was courtesy of a Sverge player -
thanks very much!! We'll come back to the goal later. OC's were
controlling the game with Sverge using their usual tactics of six men behind
the ball, awful both to watch and play against. Nev and Paddy put in a
couple of good strong challenges which for some reason the referee
(our old mate blondie) deemed unfair and gave free kicks to Sverge. From one of these 'fouls' Gibbo half kicked the ball away and Blondie was
quick to show the 1st yellow of the game - ridiculous!!
The pattern
of Blondie giving every decision Sverge's way continued and the boys were
understandably becoming rather frustrated. Another free kick was
given for an innocuous challenge in the OC's half, Sverge took it quickly and
Blondie blew his whistle for it to be re-taken... or so everyone thought.
The OC's players stopped (playing to the whistle as you are always taught) and
a Sverge player planted it in the top corner. Now if the pattern of the
game was to be followed it would be a booking for kicking the ball away but no,
Blondie awards the goal!!!!!! 1-1 out of nothing. The boys
went mad with Matt charged out of goal to confront the hapless ref but the
decision stood and Matt got himself a 6 quidder. It may have been
at this point when Gibbo pulled a face at the ref and was given a second
yellow, off you go bud - OC's down to five. That was about it for the 1st
half.
The second
half continued in the same vein with Sverge getting all the decisions. I
hate to complain about a ref but he was awful, me and Richie by now
laughing at his incompetence, it couldn't get any worse... or could
it?? I think James and Nev were also booked (apologies if
that's incorrect) for 'fouls' on Sverge players. The old grey head for
Sverge, commonly recognised as the most horrible, nasty, bitter old man at the
YMCA (apparently he's also on the committee!!), seemingly allowed to foul
at will. With around four minutes of the 2nd half played Nev tracked one
of the Sverge players into the corner, standing his ground. With Nev not
touching him at all the old boy takes a dive - what is the decision to
be?? Blondie blows for what we expect to be a Sverge free kick but no,
game abandoned......unbelievable!!!!!
So that
about wraps it up. The only other thing to note is the conversation in
the pub after about the OC's goal. James 'Goal Machine' Nutt
claiming the goal for himself but the rest of the lads, apart from his brother,
sure it was an OG - down to your discretion Tom!!!!!!
Angus Welton
Thanks for that Gus, great report on the game.
Sverge are certainly turning out to be a bogey side – the last three meetings
have now finished in a draw. I include the above game because, even though the
referee ‘abandoned’ the game, the point each was still awarded. How does that
work then??? Maybe we could ask the committee? Despite the result OC’s are
still in a very strong position to win out next week, sitting 3 points clear on
10. We face HSBC AFC next Thursday, a side we met once before in a 4-1 win. A
point will do the job, but I’m sure the boys will be out to prove a point after
this game.
Now James, I’ve given the goal as an OG for no other
reason than that of the six lads playing, four said it was an OG. Majority
rules I’m afraid. I’ll be updating the all-time 6-A-Side top scorers after next
week’s game but a quick glance tells me you’ve overtaken Gussy on the leader
board. Could somebody PLEASE fill me in on the name of the lad who scored two
goals against Scudders back in May? Surely someone knows his name!
This Sunday has the potential for more fireworks
when OC’s meet Chinese Star Sports in the league. Let’s hope for an official
ref for this one. It’s been a good three weeks since the boys got a proper run
out so no doubt they’ll be rearing to go against the third from bottom,
relegation threatened, beaten 2007 cup finalists. Good luck lads!
