4-1 last Tursday, much better performance, some good football was on display to entertain the crowd of 3: Mr Dye, Mr Jenkins and Mr Tancell. Richie, Bradley, Paddy, Dunc, Nev and myself lined up. Goals were 1 from me, 1 from Paddy and 2 clinical finishes from Toes Poole, after a couple of slide rule passes put them on a plate for him! Next week, Sverge in the late show. We need someone to beat Hamstrung to give us a chance of winning the league again. Hopefully someone will help out and we won’t slip up again!

Congratulations James – having just last month scored your 100th 6-A-Side goal for OC’s, you now take the honour of having scored OC’s 100th goal in 7-A-Side competition. It was the second goal by the way, hope it was a good one!

Always disappointing to lose to Hamstrung, and that’s two defeats on the trot. The last time we suffered consecutive defeats was July 2005!!! A 1-0 defeat to Rovers was followed by a 4-2 loss to Inter. Two consecutive defeats is what counts as a bad run for OC’s – that’s a bad as it’s ever been for us and it’s only the third time it’s happened in just under 140 games.

I got a text at the crack of dawn on Wednesday morning (my time) from Richie with the result of this game. I VERY rarely get the results so promptly; the reason was soon clear to me – Richie had done something he just couldn’t wait to tell me about! Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t for a demonstration of his goalkeeping talents; Richie had got himself on the scoresheet for the first time in 7-A-Side. He was quick to point out that this was a feat I had never achieved. He is, of course, correct. Do I care? Nope - it was probably a scuffed shot that bobbled over than line anyway! It certainly wasn’t a pen because he’d have blazed that over the bar!

The less said about this the better. A very poor performance from us, some interesting referee decisions, interesting challenges, no talking etc contributed to a 3-1 loss last Thursday. Richie, Bradley, Paddy, Lee, Nev and myself made up the numbers. Went 1-0 down, an OG brought us back to 1-1 until half time. Then two quick goals from them ended the contest. Couple of posts were hit but no joy. To be honest we were poor and got hit by two sucker-punches in the second half. Maybe it was down to my comments earlier in the day about their gay team name, apologies boys. Big decision by the ref at 1-1 not to award a penalty to us. The keeper clearly outside the box, but the ref said it was his momentum that took him out so wouldn't give it. Two weeks ago a penalty was given against us for the very same thing, when a little toe went over the line, not a whole body! Don't like to be someone that bangs on about bad refereeing decisions, but that was so inconsistent it was terrible. Anyway it wasn't to be and we lost.

Late late game on Thursday saw us against old boys Sverge [that’s ageist James!]. Last few games have had some interesting challenges and interesting decisions from the referee. Anyway again we struggled with numbers, Gus and Tancy injured and Bradley away with work. So we drafted in Matt Walker and Biddy (yep you read that right, no spelling mistake) Bidcom stepped up to the challenge. Big thanks to Matt and Biddy both had great games, Matt getting the winning goal in the second half and Biddy playing in every position except keeper; that wasn't the plan but he was so enthusiastic! Never looked in danger of losing, Sverge were happy to defend and try to get us on the break. We played some good football but didn't get the goal until Matt popped up. Other players were Nev, Richie, Paddy and myself. Again thanks to Matt and Biddy who answered my desperate plea for players, they can share Man of the Match.
