The Vivid Dancer is similar to both Emma's Dancer and Springwater Dancer. The male is bright blue, with a wide stripe on the top of the thorax. The blue abdominal segments are ringed with black. Females are blue or brown.

Habitat: spring-fed streams and pools

Great Plains Range: NE, SD, NM, CO, WY, MT, IA

Flight season: May to October
