In addition to private lessons, MAEC also offers summer ensembles and classes. Students who enroll in private lessons may attend one ensemble or class for no extra charge. Please see our Summer Session information below. Additional summer classes may be offered, please contact the Music Academy.

Summer Instrumentalists - Keep playing while school is out!

Back to the BASSics - Summer Base Camp

Beginning through advanced double bass study. Bass players learn together proper techniques, increase musicianship, and expand their playing abilities. $150 for week camp.

Beginning Base Camp. (Rising 5th-8th grades); June 14-18, 2004; 9am-12pm. June 18, 3:00pm Recital

Intermediate-Advanced Bass Camp (Rising 9th +); June 14 - 18, 2004; 1pm-4pm. June 18, 3:00pm Recital

 
Woodwind Explorers - Beginning recorder & wind instruments. No experience necessary, but fun will be required! $80 for 8 week class.
Rising 1st-4th Grades: Wednesdays, 4-5pm
Rising 5th-6th Grades: Wednesdays, 5-6pm
     
New Horizons Band - Learn to play music in a band as a senior adult - even if you have no musical experience!
Rehearsal Times: Tuesdays & Thursdays
Beginner New Horizon Band: 9-10:30am
New Horizon Band: 10:30-12pm
     
Keyboard Excursions - join us for piano classes designed exclusively for children & adults with no previous experience. A great opportunity to "try out" the piano without a long term commitment. Space is limited, please enrolly early to ensure your place in the adventure!
 

Keyboard Explorers - For children ages 4-6, entering kindgergarten or 1st grade in the fall. An introduction to the keyboard with emphasis on naming and locating keys and basic musicianship skills. June 14-18th. $75 (includes playing book and activity book). REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS JUNE 1, 2004.

Rising Kindergarten: 10am-11am

Rising 1st Graders: 11am-12pm
 
Keyboard Safaris - For elementary and early middle school students (rising 2nd - 5th grades) with no previous piano experience. Emphasis on naming and locating keys and beginning music reading at the piano. $75, includes text.
Session 1: June 21-25; 11am-12pm; register by June 10, 2004
Session 2: July 19-23; 11am-12pm; register by July 1, 2004
 

White Key Rafting - For middle school/junior high school students (rising 6th-8th grades) with no previous piano experience. Emphasis on naming and locating keys and beginning music reading at the piano. $75, inlcudes text.

Session 1: June 28-July 1; 11am-12pm; register by June 9, 2004
Session 2: July 19-23; 11am-12pm; register by July 1, 2004
 
White-water Keyboarding - High School and Adult Piano Classes - Introduction to playing piano for high school students and adults with no previous piano experience or very limited experience. Emphasis on locating notes at the keyboard, beginning music reading, basic musicianship skills, and developing a healthy playing technique. Class will also include a brief overview of great keyboard composers and piano masterpieces. $75, includes text
Tuesdays and Thursdays (choose from 2 - 2 week sessions)
Session 1: June 15 & 17, 22 & 24; 7:30-8:30pm; registration deadline June 4, 2004
Session 2: July 13 & 15, 20 & 22; 7:30-8:30pm; registration deadline June 28, 2004
 
Other Classes Offered During Summer
Private Lessons for All Instruments and Voice - It's important for current students to continue lessons! The summer is a great time to introduce an instrument to the novice and music lessons for the more advanced musician interested in sharpening skills. Scheduling varies according to teacher availability. Please call 252-353-MAEC to enroll!
Guitar Studies - for elementary, middle, and high school, and adults. Please call 252-353-MAEC for more information!

Vocal Studies - Exploring Your Voice - A group class for young singers to explore beginning music reading, basic musicianship skills and developing a healthy signing technique. $90 for 8 week session.

Rising 2nd-5th Grades: Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm
Rising 6th-8th Grades: Wednesdays 6:00-7:00pm
 
Music Therapy - comprehensive clinic and community music therapy services are available for individuals and groups of all ages, disabilities, and health needs. Contractual services are offered for assessments, consultations, semniars, and therapeutic programs.
Other Great Classes & Ensembles: Jazz Studies, Music Theory Classes, Music History Classes, Exploring Music Games, Development of the Groove, Piano Performance Skills, Trombone Choir (Thursday afternoons), and Woodwind & Brass Chamber Ensembles
