The
cliche "it's never too late to learn" is coming to
life with the New Horizons Band Project that teaches beginning
musicians over the age of 50. Even if you've never played a
band instrument, or the dust on your tuba is decades old, we'll
have you up and playing in no time! Join MAEC as we add this
band to the fast growing number of senior bands across the country.
Music is good medicine. Music has the power to lower your pulse
and blood pressure and decrease your anxiety. Come partake in
the luxury of making music just for the joy of it!
As
a member of the New Horizons Band, you will meet new friends
and work with them as a team to learn music for concerts and
other performances in the community. As an adult, you have advantages
that will help you learn music. If you played an instrument
in school years ago, you will be amazed at how much you remember
and how quickly you will be able to play again. Even if you've
never played music, you are already familiar with the sound
of a lot of the music that will be included in your early instruction.
Learning
a musical instrument is not just for kids! Join the New Horizons
Band and experience the joy of playing an instrument. The first
New Horizons Band was started by professor Roy Ernst at the
Eastman School of Music in 1991. Currently there are over 60
New Horizon Bands in the United States and Canada. You may have
an instrument already in your house from your's or your children's
school days or you may chose to rent or purchase an instrument.
