Music
Theory Class (return to top)
MAEC offers music theory classes as a complement to private
lessons. Regularly enrolled academy students pay no additional
fee for one additional class or ensemble. Any student, whether
taking lesson at MAEC or elsewhere, may also enroll. Music theory
courses include music notation, scales, keys, musical terminology,
and the study of intervals and harmony. With an emphasis in
music theory, students gain a better understanding of note recognition,
key signatures, meter, form and rhythm. The class helps to clarify
what is taught during private lessons. Enrollment in private
lessons is not required for this class.

be immediately applied to instrumental studies. Students with
solid music theory skills become well-rounded musicians. Students
are encouraged to return for more than one semester as they
will continue to be challenged with a higher level of learning.
