If
my child is already receiving instruction from his school director,
won't a second instructor confuse him/her?
School
band, chorus and orchestra directors have a very difficult job,
and we are quite fortunate to have so many good directors in
Pitt County.
School
music directors work within limited time each school day and
with very limited financial resources. Most
band and orchestra classes have 50-100 students per class, making
it very difficult for the director to meet each student's individual
needs. Often
times, the teaching is by group instruction or imitation. This
does not allow the student the opportunity to understand the
detailed needs for their instrument nor does this allow for
optimum creative growth. The director may not specialize on
the instrument that your child is learning, which also makes
it very difficult to prepare their students for an honor band,
orchestra, or chorus audition.
Private
lessons will help your child excel with their instrument, and
have a better overall musical experience. The individual attention
received during the weekly lesson encourages the fullest development
of a student's skills emphasizing technique, music reading,
repertoire, music theory, and listening skills. Students enrolled
in private lessons also have the opportunity to perform on recitals
throughout the school year.
Aside
from the joy that your child will receive from the performance
of music, lessons will help improve many of the skills that
they need in life. These may include their self-confidence,
problem solving skills, cognitive skills, and memory skills,
which of course will carry over into their schoolwork and personal
relationships.
