This is the text of an email that I sent to Rosemary, the love of my life, about another love in my life, a love of performance, that is leading me to take the G.R.E. Thursday and send in grad school apps on Friday. You all probably wonder if I ever write anymore because all I do is post emails. Well, I haven't had time for a regular update, so I use existing material. :-)

So anyway, here it is.

So I just watched a documentary about the incredible San Fransisco Mime Troupe. They are a group that started out as commedia dell-arte and morphed into a musical theatre troupe (the "mime" part is kind of a joke). They tend to organize their shows around a central social issue.

They did this musical called Steel Town and actually took it to towns where people were struggling because the steel plants were closing. They showed scenes where they were talking to people in East Chicago, Indiana (one of the places that i rode the train thru this weekend) in a bar and they were just asking people about their lives. You can write about this stuff throguh research but then when you go see that people really are dealing with this shit...it must have been so validating for them. They were charging $7 but telling people to pay what they could...the people were so appreciative and just felt a feeling of hope that maybe they would get thru.

Maybe I've finally found something that will combine teaching and history and Theatre/Performing. I want to write a play and have you and Christine and Jeremy and whoever else wants to be a part of it be in it and just grow together and keep topical and and and....

And be broke but not care because I'll be doing something so much more vital.

Anyway, there I go dreaming again...it feels good to be at this point in my life. It feels good to want to do something and to slowly, slowly get this thing that was ...out THERE to start coming into focus.

I hope I get into school. Even if I don't, I'll find a way to do these things.

I love you and I want you to star in all of my plays.

Check this link out --the San Francisco Mime Troupe Home Page--for more information. I can't believe that the friggin' group is still around. It makes me want to move to SF and sign up. Fantastic stuff. love,
