The Look At The Princess Trilogy:
| Brief synopsis: |
| | |
|
With Crichton apparently stuck as a statue, destined to rule the planet for 80 cycles, Clavor and Cargn take more drastic measures - and chop of Crichton's head. Whilst the various parties fight over Crichton, the Empress threatens to kill all offworlders. Aeryn meanwhile meets danger in the barren lands, and Zhaan struggles with Kahaynu for Moya's life. In the end, its down to a struggle between Peacekeepers and Scarrens.

Using special communication devices, the crew are able to talk to Crichton and Katralla as they stand motionless as statues, ruling over their planet. D'Argo and Chiana wish to leave as soon as Zhaan returns, whilst Rygel decides to stay, enjoying his new political influence as a friend of the crown. With Scorpius asked to leave within a solar day, things were looking better until Clavor and Cargn take more deadly action, and chop off Crichton's head.
|
Worse still, Cargn decides that the best method of disposal is to leave Crichton's head in an acid bath. However, Scorpius, having taken a sample of Crichton's DNA, was able to track him to the acid, and retrieve Crichton's head. Fortunately for Crichton, before Scorpius can leave with his catch, Jenavian jumps in and rescues Crichton. Back in the Imperial palace, the Empress learns of the incident, and threatens all offworlders with execution.
The main suspect seems to be Aeryn as she was jealous over Crichton's marriage. She however has gone to the barren lands with Dregon, having told nobody, and is now having her own climbing adventure. Jenavian takes Crichton's head back to the machine to reunite it with his body. The clever freezing process allows each molecule of John's body to exist alone, so when he is released from his frozen position he is made whole once more. Jenavian however now knows that Scorpius is Crichton's enemy.
|
Realising the implications of this, she asks what Crichton is truly doing here. When John tells her everything, she hardly believes him at first, but is gradually pursuaded by this interesting man. Meanwhile, Dregon gets into difficulties climbing, and in a massive error of judgement, grabs Aeryn's leg, and brings the two of them falling down from the cliff face. Whilst they do survive, Aeryn has a broken leg, and Dregon is unable to stand, but still, Aeryn begins the slog back to civilisation.

On Moya, Zhaan had been able to suck Kahaynu into an engine vent, but the powerful being returned, alive, and stating that Moya too is alive and well. Kahaynu reveals that this was not a test of Moya, as she was already a tested soul, but of Zhaan, the guardian of a Leviathan that can produce gunships. Kahaynu was impressed that Zhaan thought only of Pilot and Moya, and not of herself, and granted them all life, to leave and return to their friends. He also allows Moya to speak to Zhaan once more, where Moya thanks Zhaan, and also asks her to sing.
Back on the planet, Scorpius and D'Argo meet up, where Scorpius tries to make a deal, wanting only Crichton and his knowledge, and promising no harm to the rest of the crew. Cargn arrives though, making the situation more volatile. Scorpius and Cargn argue over power, and for now it seems as if Scorpius and the Peacekeepers have an advantage, but Cargn clearly doubts they have as much power as they say. When Cargn threatens D'Argo, and tortures him with a wave of heat from the glands in the Scarren body, the Scarren is led in the direction of Chiana.
|
Cargn then goes after Chiana, but discovers that she knows nothing. He does however hold her hostage, and knowing how desperate his situation is becoming with Crichton alive somewhere, he kills Clavor, ending his deal with the idiot son. Jenavian however begins to feel differently about Crichton, and the two spend the evening together. They then make preparations for the next day. Meanwhile Aeryn drags Dregon across the desert and manages to find help, coincidentally from another man she had earlier turned down when offered a kiss.
| | |
However, though Aeryn may be safe, and Crichton planning a return, the Empress orders all offworlders killed as a result of Clavor's death, even though she knows it was the Scarren. However, Scorpius and D'Argo go after the Scarren at the acid bath chamber, and attempt to fight Cargn to save Chiana and learn where Crichton has gone. None of them know however, but then Crichton himself arrives, knocking Cargn into the acid, just as Scorpius and D'Argo were about to be overwhelmed. D'Argo then catches Chiana before she can fall into the acid, leaving Crichton to deal with Scorpius.
Despite the opportunity to then take out a weakened Scorpius, Crichton seems to hesitate (something in his head perhaps?), and he lets Scorpius go. Scorpius then lazily flicks his fingers in the acid, showing just how much control he now has over Crichton. Jenavian feigns grief over Clavor, saying goodbye to Crichton after their encounter, and Crichton is reunited with the crew. Before he leaves however, he has much to discuss with the Empress. He devises a plan to allow Tyno to take his place as a statue.
Katralla already has their daughter inside her after the careful planning of the royal scientists, a daughter which the Empress kindly lets Crichton meet using the clever DNA prediction machine, which means that Katralla and Tyno, who truly love eachother, can be together as rules, as long as the revelation is kept sealed. John then returns to Moya, where he meets a silent Aeryn, but one with a vial from the planet. They perform the test, kiss, and judging by the reserved smiles, they are pretty happy at the presumably sweet result, even if they haven't yet managed to solidify their relationship.
Trivia Quiz:
References and continuity:
Scorpius: "Very fortunate I sampled your DNA while you were in the Aurora chair. There would have been no other way to track you Crichton!"
This refers back to The Hidden Memory, when Crichton was a prisoner on Scorpius's Gammak base, and was held in a torture device called the Aurora chair.
- John says "How Batman was that?" to D'Argo when the Luxan jumps across the acid bath to catch Chiana, referring to the caped crusader, Gotham city's Bruce Wayne, the guy who dresses in a black cape, acts like a bat and saves people. Enemies include the Joker and the Penguin.
- John talks of the boyscouts, and in this context he means the fact that they follow their own strict code, and would never deviate from being the good little guys.
Funny or interesting quotes:
Moya: "Zhaan. One request. Sing..."
Moya spoke! Wow! It seems as though she likes singing too.
Aeryn: "I know. It hurts. Do you want it to not hurt? Well, next time, hold on to the frelling wall!"
I have to say I absolutely love some of Aeryn's quotes, she really does get the best lines!
Cricthon: "Ahhhhh!! My body! My body!!"
Jenavian: "I'm working on it."
Cricthon: "Working on it? That's impossible!"
Jenavian: "Strangely not. If I do this right, your current state isn't terminal."
Cricthon: "And if its not done right?"
Jenavian: "Terminal."
Cricthon: "Get experts..."
The wonders of modern technology. Crichton can be "re-assembled" thanks to the method of the statue freezing process. Jenavian knows how, but isn't totally sure it would work. Crichton is lucky, and all he suffers is a slightly crunchy neck for a few moments as he recovers.
D'Argo: "Have you seen Chiana?"
Rygel: "No. Have you tried, (hiccups) looking under your sheets?"
Rygel, slightly drunk through fear, clearly finds D'Argo and Chiana's relationship amusing.
Crichton: "I'm not your enemy, I'm not your friend. You leave me alone, or the next time we meet, one of us will be dead."
He turns out to be wrong of course, but Crichton really doesn't want to see Scorpius again.

Personal Opinion:
What a great finish to the first trilogy in the Farscape story! There weren't any quick sci-fi fixes (e.g. oh yeh, that never happened, it was a dream type stuff), and the whole story felt believeable. My favourite part of the episode was definitely Scorpius dipping his hand in the acid, showing just how much control he had over Crichton, and that Crichton couldn't have pushed him in even if he wanted to.
The one weak part of the story was the Kahaynu branch, but this was resolved nicely as being a test of Zhaan's character. Though I may not like her, I confess most of the other crew would have abandoned ship where she didn't. Rygel especially would have been in the nearest transport pod seconds after Kahaynu announced that Moya was to be decommissioned. Finally, the end of the trilogy, the kiss between Aeryn and Crichton - what a finish!
