    Brief synopsis:
    Switching
When Moya is attacked by a Halosian ship, the weapon has a strange effect, it causes the crew to switch bodies. This has rather interesting results, especially as there is nobody experienced to control Moya. Whilst Zhaan tries to negotiate with the Halosians, the crew of Moya, try to come to terms with being in eachother's bodies, whilst fixing the defence screen, but how will they switch back?

    The Main Story:
    Old Friends
Crichton hurriedly makes his way to the bridge to find the ship under attack - a large vessel has a target lock on Moya. Zhaan has already gone over to try and talk to the attackers, so John and the crew try to get the defence screen operational. Aboard the Halosian ship, Zhaan finds an injured creature, Tak, who accuses Moya of attacking them, after having previously been attacked by Talyn. However, when Zhaan reveals they have no weapons, Tak miraculously recovers, forgetting his deception, and prepares to attack.

The Halosians, Tak and Yoz, fire just as Moya's defence screen is raised, which somehow causes the crew to switch bodies. Only those in close proximity jump, so Crichton leaps into Aeryn, Aeryn into Rygel and Rygel into Crichton. In Pilot's den, Chiana leaps into D'Argo, D'Argo to Pilot and Pilot into Chiana. This leaves Moya without a proper Pilot to control her, and the ships systems begin to fail. Fortunately D'Argo is a quick learner, and he uses Pilot's advice to give Moya some basic guidance.

When all six crew meet up, Crichton gets the DRDs to take photographs of everybody so as to avoid confusion. He and Aeryn, in Aeryn and Rygel's bodies respectively, head off to fix the defence shield in case the Halosians fire again. Aboard the Halosian ship, Zhaan convinces Tak to inspect Moya to see that she has no weapons. Tak agrees, though asks Zhaan to stay aboard. Zhaan calls D'Argo in Pilot's body and tells him of Crais's attack and of the visitor coming to Moya. Tak expects John Crichton, so Rygel has to get down there to greet him.

With Tak away, the second Halosian, Yoz explains that hostile kills are what allow Halosians to evolve, and also shows Zhaan a recording proving that Crais was only defending himself, and chose not to completely destroy the Halosian ship. Back on Moya, Crichton checks out Aeryn's body (to the amazement of Aeryn and Chiana), whilst Tak says he is satisfied that there are no weapons aboard. The Halosian then says he feels sick, and vomits in one of the rooms Rygel takes him round. Tak then goes back aboard his ship, but the damage is done as the ships systems start to fail. Halosians

As Moya senses the problem, the crew begin the search. Chiana meanwhile decides that it may be best to get off the boat, despite being in D'Argo's body, and tries to take Rygel, in Crichton's body, along with her, but fortunately Rygel refuses. Crichton and Aeryn ask Rygel if he saw anything strange, and Rygel casually mentions the vomit. Suspicious, Aeryn and John inspect it, and find that it is mobile, and corrosive. It has worked its way up to the defence screen, and begun eating through the circuits. To solve the problem, they need to isolate the vomit by linking the shield another way, and then neutralise it using an alkaline substance.

The repatching of the defence screen does however cause the screen to be lowered for a few seconds, allowing Tak to make a second shot. Two things happen. Firstly, Zhaan convinces Yoz that if the shot fails, Tak has failed, and that Yoz should take over. Secondly, the body switching happens again, as John goes into Rygel, Rygel into Aeryn, Aeryn into John, D'Argo into Chiana, Chiana into Pilot and Pilot into D'Argo. Yoz sees the failure to destroy Moya, and as Tak prepares to ram the Leviathan, Yoz takes over, to the relief of Zhaan.

Unfortunately, Yoz is no more sane than Tak, and continues the ramming assault, with the intention of leaving the ship via the transport pod Zhaan arrived in. Zhaan is forced to attack, virtually shredding her own hand to escape her restraints, and then knocking Yoz unconscious. She then contacts the ship, where Crichton has realised what they need to do in order to switch back. They need to be shot again, with the shield at the same strength as before. Despite initial confusion as Crichton is in Rygel's body, Zhaan is convinced to fire on Moya. Aeryn

The crew return to their original positions, and when Zhaan fires, they are switched back (despite a tense moment where D'Argo in Chiana's body couldn't life Pilot in D'Argo's body into place - fortunately Pilot came around at just the right moment to save them). Thankfully, all the crew are back to being themselves, and Moya in particular is keen to hear about all of Pilot's experiences whilst in a different body.

The episode finishes with Aeryn admitting that she was also checking out Crichton, not just the other way round, and at the same time, Chiana and D'Argo take a new stride forward in their relationship.

    References and continuity:

Crichton (In Aeryn): "That's great, its the three freakin stooges, I'm hitting myself!"

When Crichton, in Aeryn's body, hits Rygel, in Crichton's body, he realises what he is doing, and refers to the comedy trio, the three stooges, whose antics often involved hitting eachother, and even themselves.

    • Rygel won't leave with Chiana until he has his body back. This is because his cousin Bishan overthrew Rygel, and in order for Rygel to take back his place as Dominar, he would need to be a Hynerian.
    • The defence shield that Moya uses was taken from the wreck of the Zelbinion, which the crew encountered in season 1's PK Tech Girl.
    Funny or interesting quotes:

Crichton: "Have we sent the "don't shoot us we're pathetic" transmission?"

When the Halosians prepare to attack, Crichton wonders if anybody aboard has tried to make contact to tell the attackers that they mean no harm.

Crichton (In Aeryn): "Pull it out, point it like a gun, and shoot."

Crichton tells Rygel in Crichton's body how to take a pee, which he then does in the maintenance bay.

Aeryn (In Rygel): "What are you up to Rygel?"
Rygel (In Crichton): "Nothing, and my own body shouldn't be suspicious of me."

Rygel's logic may be flawed, but it certainly made me laugh. As always though, the Hynerian was up to something - trying to make a deal with the Halosians to get switched back early.

Aeryn (In Rygel): "You... Are... Mentally damaged."
Crichton (In Aeryn): "No. I'm a guy!"

John doesn't try to talk his way out of what Aeryn just saw him doing. John was checking out the body he was in. Aeryn's.

Rygel (In Aeryn): "I told you. You all said I was paranoid, but its true. No one ever frelling listens to me."

When Zhaan won't listen to Crichton, because Crichton is in Rygel's body unknown to Zhaan, Rygel finds evidence to support his claims of being ignored.

Rygel: "Oh yes, I'm back too, thanks for asking. Back to being me, back to being ignored."

When Rygel gets back into his body, John and Aeryn are too interested in eachother to notice whether or not the Hynerian is back to normal.

Aeryn: "You were in my shoes... I was in your pants."

Crichton won't have to feel guilty after all as Aeryn suggests maybe she did a little checking out of her own whilst in Crichton's body.

    New Aliens:
    Halosian
HalosiansLarge birdlike creatures, the Halosians are a scary race with vicious tactics. Their black feathery exterior and "alienlike" mouth are a match for their cold "kill or be killed" attitude. They collect hostile kills to "evolve" and will kill their own if failure is spotted.

    Farewell to:

Tak Killed by Yoz when Tak is seen to have failed.
Yoz Knocked out and left by Zhaan aboard the Halosian ship.

    Guest Stars:

    • Dominique Sweeney as Tak.
    • Thomas Holesgrove as Yoz.

    Personal Opinion:

This episode was absolutely fantastic, I really did enjoy it. Admittedly the Halosians were a little annoying, but the episode was made great by the amount of fun each actor was having playing eachothers roles. Claudia and Ben really excelled at this, showing a great understanding of eachother's characters.

The quotes section of this guide is probably one of the biggest on this website, and there were literally hundreds more fantastic lines I could have added in. The episode is a great laugh, which is nice considering the hard times to follow in the Look At The Princess Trilogy.

Brilliant fun, a classic Farscape episode.10/10
