THE NEW X-MEN Recent Issue Reviews, Series Summary and Grade, and Character Bios RECENT ISSUES Issue 128: B Professor X and Jean Grey are in Europe investigating a mysterious train wreck. They send out a team of reserve X-men to investigate the wreck. While talking, Jean and the Professor discover that the Phoenix Force still inhabits Jeans body. Thier conversation is interupted when a thief that tells them he is a muntant, and that he stole a deadly weapon called the Weapon XIII. He also states that the reserve team ihas probably been killed as a result of the weapon. At the end of the issue, Scott is back at the X-Mansion talking to Emma about his problems with Jean. This issue looks like it will be the start of something big in more ways than one, I reccomend picking this one up. Issue 127: D+ This story is all ablut the new X-Man Xorn. Xorn is lookiing for a monster in a place called Mutant Town. He finds the monster, and siscoveres it is really a mutant. The mutant goes berserk when it sees its mother dead from a drug overdose, and in the end is taken down in a ray of fire by local athorities. This issue is pretty boring, and I really am not liking Xorn so far. Unless your an avid X-Men collector, you can skip this one. SERIES SUMMARY Muntants, humans that hav genetically been given special abilities, are hated and feared by humanity. Professor Charles Xavier founded a team of muntants called the X-men to help protect humanity and try to bridge the gap that has grown between humans and muntants. Recently, mutations have taken a turn for the worse, creating genetic "freaks" instead of just those with extrordinary powers. With the world changing around them, the X-Men stand tall and try to cope. SERIES GRADE: B The X-Men have long been my favorite heroes, and I have been an avid reader for most of my life. When Grant Morrison took over writing for the New X-Men title, I didn't know what to expect. Mr. Morrison seems to be doing a fairly good job. I love the idea that Xaviers has gone back to beinga a school instead of just the home for the X-Men, but I don't know if I like the new muntant freaks idea that is why it got a B. Still, Mr. Morrison's bold new look at the X-World, coupled with the rich history of the X-Men makes this book worth reading.
