日占時期，本港活躍著一支抗日游擊隊──東江縱隊港九獨立大隊，戰士們用鮮血和生命捍衛祖國。1997年香港回歸祖國的中秋節，特首董建華接見老戰士代表，高度讚揚港九大隊的貢獻。1998年重陽節，特區政府在大會堂舉行隆重的“陣亡戰士名冊安放儀式”，董建華親自把在抗日戰爭中犧牲的港九大隊烈士名冊，安放在大會堂紀念龕內，供市民憑弔。遲來的儀式，為這段足以令香港人驕傲的歷史補上最精彩的一筆。

Abstract： The Hong Kong-Kowloon Brigade of the East River Column was a guerrilla force actively operating against the Japanese in Hong Kong during the Japanese occupation period. Fighters of the Brigade sacrificed their blood and lives to defend their motherland. At the Mid-Autumn Festival in 1997, upon the reunification of Hong Kong with the motherland, Mr Tung Chee-hwa, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR), received the representatives of the veteran guerrillas and highly praised them for the contributions they made. At the Chung Yeung Festival in l998, a solemn ceremony was organized by the HKSAR Government at the Hong Kong City Hall in which Mr Tung personally put the Roll of Honour which bears the names of the Brigade martyrs sacrificed in the War of Resistance in the memorial hall for the public to pay their respects. The ceremony, though belated, added a most extraordinary brush to the chapter of history of which Hong Kong people are proud of.
