LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE

Marilyn Maristela, 1996 Miss Philippines Asia Pacific and 1st Runner-
up Miss Asia Pacific Pageant, is one classic case of the right girl in the wrong  pageant. Reportedly  applied for the  Binibining  Pilipinas 2000 screening but was turned down due to technicalities that she is already a runner-up in an international competition. Now what kind of crap is that? She didn't win the title of Miss Asia Pacific in the first place and even if she did, she won't be given preferential treatment anyway! She
will have to compete like the rest of the girls from the bottom, fair and square. Why  not give her the  chance to go  for it? Judging  from this photo and from reports and feedbacks, she has what it takes to win a title! Look at India's Lara Dutta, before she won the Femina Miss India title she already had other titles under her belt. Binibini organizers, stop throwing  pearls to the swine. Let Marilyn  sign up and she'll deliver the goods  on a silver platter. She did it once, she'll do it again. Remember, lightning always strikes twice! Ka-boom !!!

THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL? NOT ALWAYS!

It's a story  as old as time. The  crowd favorite does not win the plum prize and ends up only as second or third place. The winner goes on to compete, does not do well and eventually slips into obscurity. Our belo- ved third place winner goes on to become famous &  even more successful. Moral of the story : "The win-
ner doesn't always take it all!"

Such was the case in the 1996 Elite Model Look. Where is the winner, Charity Lagahid nowadays? Maricris Perez's name can still be heard, but what  about  Charity? And  Mary Grace Tagle, the poor
2nd Runner-up, where is she now?

Grace Tagle is now one of the country's most beau- tiful faces and even heralded by most as the next big
potential  Miss  Philippines! Grace's  career is on the
upswing and can only get better. Who knows? If she
indeed becomes Miss Philippines, this time, the win-ner just might take it all.

HAIRCUT, HER CUT, HAIR 'KAT'

Katherine Annwen De Guzman, Miss Philippines World  2000, is such a  pretty girl her  fans cannot get  enough of her. They like her Filipina looks so much they are even willing to give her a make-over
to  make sure she  makes heads turn  at the  Miss World Pageant in London on November. Not that her hair nowadays is  not pretty enough, no, that's  not what  I said! Who  could not  use a fresh haircut to bring down heaven to earth? Kathy, choose one and be the ONE!

PITOYS 'R' US

Joanna Penaloza, what happened? The beautiful, long dark
haired mestiza and Miss Philippines International 2000 is a fashion victim? How could that be?

Pitoy, Joanna is supposed to be a haute couture model and not  a  model for  'Good Housekeeping!'  Good grief! Joanna, what's with the beehive hairdo? Auditioning for the Simpsons? And  what on earth  is that masse  of fabric  doing on  your tummy? Are you 9 months pregnant or it's just the rest of the dress fabric that got stuck  somewhere? And... not to mention that roll of red thing  around your  shoulders, my goodness!!! Joanna, Joanna, leave your mom's mosquito net alone!

Pitoy, boy-o-boy, what have you been doing to our beauties ever  since you  monopolized everything? Yes,  I agree..you were an avante garde designer in the past, but alas, times have
changed  and the  Miss Philippines Pageant  is still  stuck in
NeverNeverLand. Pitoy, stop  making toys  of our ladies and time to pass on the baton to a younger designer!

MARISTELA MANIA

Fans are actively campaigning for 1996 Miss Philippines Asia Pacific and First Runner-up  at Miss Asia Pacific to re-
consider  joining the Binibining Pilipi- nas. Her beauty, figure and poise has been referred to by many as the 'gold' standard for all aspiring queens of late. The organizers of Binibini and Mutya of  the Philippines  Pageants should once and for all forget about politics and work for the common good. We are all looking at a potential Miss Universe here!

BEAUTY PAGEANT BOO-BOOS

Beauty queens are nothing but perfect. Some may have the 'looks' but not the brain good enough for 'books.' Here are some slips of the tongue from various "Miss Philippines-Wanna-Be's" through the years.

Q: "If you only had one of the five senses, what would you want
....to have?"
A: "Uhmm...the sense of sight."
Q: "And why is that?"
A: "Uhm..because, because...ahh..I have beautiful eyes!"

Q: "How would you spend your last 24 hours on earth?"
A: "I will spend it in church to forgive my sins!"

Eddie Mercado: "What will be your plans after the Binibining Pilipinas?"
Candidate: "I will continue my educational insurance plans."

Dindi Gallardo, Miss Philippines Universe 1993: "The day we went.. the day we went...we spent at the Binibining Pilipinas (whispering to Apa Ongpin)...what do you call that place?"

Judge: "What do you think is a woman's greatest advantage?"
Candidate: "A woman's greatest advantage is 'she can give birth'
.................and 'equal to man!' "......DUH!!!

Emcee: "Ohhh...so you live not far from here...so how did you
............come here, did you walk or did you ride?"
Candidate: "Uhmmm...of course 'did you ride.' "

Judge: "What do you think is the woman's greatest advantage?"
Maria Lourdes Mendoza: "The women of greatest advantage is
that giving  birth because and also  they could  be equal  to man.
Thank you!"
Rita Gomez: "Here's your question, hija. Are you still a virgin?"
Maria Isabel Lopez: "If I say I still am, can I bring home the
.............................crown tonight?"
Rita Gomez: "Good answer!"
Maria Isabel: "What about you Ma'am, are you still a virgin?"
Rita Gomez: "Hija, I have 5 children with 5 different fathers. What
...................do you call that, Immaculate Conception?" (Ha, ha!)

Another Calendar Girl Contestant

Host: "Which of your assets do you think sets you apart from the
.........rest of the contestants?"
Candidate: "Well, in my opinion, the asset that sets me apart from
................all the other contestants is my INTELLIGENT. "

She's Got The Look' Contestant

Joey: "What's your favorite motto?"
Dumb Contestant: (Didn't utter a word for 5 seconds as if thinking... then after a while)..."Can you repeat the question please?"
Joey: "Okay, what is your favorite motto?"
Dumb Contestant: "Hi, hi, hi, hi..."(trying to delay her answer and pretending to be deep in her thoughts)........"Actor or actress, sir?"
Joey: (Laughs a bit and since he doesn't want to embarrass the contestant)...."You seem to be fond of slam books. Remember when you were still a kid, you had a favorite motto like,'Time is gold.' That is a sample of a motto!"
Dumb Contestant: "Ahh....sir, my favorite motto is 'Time is gold.' "
