Review

Resident Evil was the eagerly awaited first game in the Resident Evil series, it brought an all new horror factor to playstation games and offered a great new gaming experience.

The basic story line was that you as part of the Raccoon city police force, are sent out to investigate bizarre murders that are occurring just outside of Raccoon city.  You arrive on the scene and are perused by killer dogs, as if this weren't enough the guy who flew you out decides to do a runner and you end up running for your life.  Finally you escape into a mansion that was supposedly deserted and so the nightmare begins.

In the game you get to chose between two different characters to play with, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine.  Both of whom offer slightly different variations on the overall story.  Also going Chris is harder as he carries less items than Jill and the zombies are harder to kill.

You have to find a way to escape from the mansion, while fighting of the fiends and monsters.  There are lots of puzzles to solve as well, so its not just a plain shoot everything that you see game.  Along the way you also get to find out more about why people have been getting murdered.

The main complaint that people had about resident evil was that it was too hard.  There were very limited supplies of ammo and you had to keep a constant eye on how much you had left.  It certainly made the game more interesting as you could find your self cornered by zombies with only a knife in your hand.

It was and still is a great game though, the story line is interesting and makes sense and you get a real sense of accomplishment from actually completing the game.

In addition to this, it wouldn't be a resident evil game if it didn't have some sort of hidden bonus.  If you complete the game within 3 hrs you got a rocket launcher with infinite ammo.  True it kind of defeats the purpose of the game to have a supper weapon against which the monsters don't stand a chance but it is fun.

The only other complaint about the game was that the sensors got a hold of the film footage at the start and cut out the gory scenes.  Most people wouldn't mind so much, but it was already a 15 certificate and you don't shell out 30 to 40 quid for a game that has been cut.

As if this wasn't bad enough they released the Directors cut of Resident Evil, which was supposed to have everything they cut out of it to start with.  And guess what, yep they cut the movie sequence again.

True the directors cut offered more options such as harder and faster zombies and monsters, but come on.  If you are going to shell out money for a better version of a game you already have, you want everything to be in it.

Apart from that it is a great game and well worth getting.
