| So, your family dog isn't the cute and cuddly puppy you brought home, huh? There are a few questions you will probably ask yourself; 1) HOW did my dog get this way? 2) I treated him perfect, WHO did this to my pet? 3) WHY is my dog like this? Well, there's one thing you have to do... FORGET THOSE QUESTIONS! You'll NEVER find the answer to them! And if you do, use it. The best thing you can do for yourself, and your dog, is to find the solution to your problem. First off, your dog is probably aggressive because he/she has not been socialized properly, or perhaps he/she had a dramatic experience. Maybe she wandered into the neighbors yard and was scared away, maybe a big dog ran her over (in Hazel's case). Now, determine what KIND of aggression your dog/pup has. There are many different kinds of Aggression, such as: Fear Aggression Dominant Aggression Territorial/Overprotective Aggression Possessive Aggression Punishment Aggression Pain Agression Maternal Aggression Dogfighting Aggression Redirected Aggression Preditory Aggression To understand how to deal with your aggressive dog, you must understand the type of aggression. For example, when correcting a Dog with Predatory aggression, you would use strong reinforcement, to show you are not the prey, and that the dog is not the Predator, but with Fear Aggression, you would try to stay as calm as possible. There are many great books out there to help you with your aggressive dog, I would LOVE to post some of my methods with my dog up, but problems could accour, because not all dogs can be treated the same. Also, I am not a professional trainer, which means I would probably get in more trouble! Please check out the books I have suggested, most of them have helped me in some way or another, and the other ones, are books that have been suggested to me that I haven't been able to find! Good Luck! |
