| Punishment Aggression |
| Punishment Aggression is when the dog growls, bites, snaps at, barks ect. at owner when being yelled at or hit. This aggression is caused by when the owner hits their dog with there hands or rolled up newspaper, chases the dog, corners them, and alowing now way to get out. Many dogs respond aggressively when a human stands in a threating way. (Such as standing over the dog, pointing, yelling ect.) GRABBING THE DOG BY THE SCRUFF IN ANGER CREATES AGGRESSION. I remember at the old agility classes Hazel use to go to, our instructor was not a very good person to be workling with dogs. She had no real training, and very little experience with dogs, (Not to mention with an aggressive dog!). She told me that whenever Hazel acted aggressive, I should grab her by the scruff and pull her up to my face and "growl" "NO" at her. I thought that maybe it just might work, because it's sort of in a pack, also I trusted her thinking she knew what she was doing. Well, I was wrong, her aggression seemed to be getting worse if anything, so I decided to look into the aggression myself, realizing I had a real problem on my hands. I soon found out that the way she told me to act towards Hazel Aggressive Outburst, was exactlly what I SHOULDN'T be doing! I pulled Hazel out of the classes right away, and begain working with her on my own. And of coarse, since then her aggression has improved. |
