| Dogfighting Aggression |
| I think we can all guess what that is! Biting, growling, leaping, fighting, ect. towards other dogs, are all signs of Dogfighting Aggression. Dominance, Fear, and/or Territory are usualy the key behind this horirble behaviour. Most fighting occurs between dogs of the same sex, meaning males fight usually with other males, and females with females. The reason for this is dogs are usually competeing for something ex. territory, food, even attention! I have seen this occur twice. Once was between our Australian Shepherd (Jasper) and our Labrador (Blue). We were sitting around the fire, I had Jasper on my lap, and Blue beside me. I tossed Blue a piece of my hotdog and Jasper (having NEVER shown any signs of aggression before!) LEPT on Blue and attacked him. THe second time I seen this occur was with my Aussie now, Hazel, and my friends (female) dog. We were training both dogs in my backyard, and Hazel had finally gotten use to having Mercey (friend's dog) around. I was praising Mercey for a good job, and Hazel attacked her! It resulted in my broken thumb, one dog locked in the kennel, and one dog locked in the crate until my friend got a ride home. When it occurs, emotions fly, no one likes to see two dogs fight, and it is an often dangorous situation! |
