The Most Important Thing
I keep a journal about my growth as a Christian expressing my realizations and intents as I read the Bible.  I will be putting up excerpts from that journal that I feel are not too personal.  I am eager for feedback for my own edification and for fellowship.  An excerpt from today's entry follows.

Proverbs Chapter 18

The most powerful and encouraging verse in Proverbs 18, I felt, was Pr 18:10, "The name of the LORD
is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe," with safe referenced as "is set aloft."  The strength of God's protection is assuredly reiterated throughout the entire Bible.  2 Sa 22:3, 4 reaffirms the strength of our Almighty God, "The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence./  I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from mine enemies."  There is a certain level of confidence in a Christian.  True faith brings an undefeatable confidence in Jesus Christ knowing that He is the author and finisher of all; the Alpha and Omega; the beginning and the last.  The most representative and evocative example of God's protection was His victory over Satan on Calvary (Lk 23:33).  Crucified there on the hill, our sins were crucified with Him so that we may be redeemed, our sins atoned and forgiven, and through the unbounded love of God, we were saved from the most wicked and malicious threat to our souls.  The same love is present today for those who trust in the Lord.  The apostle Paul writes in Ro 8:38, 39, "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,/ Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."  All we have to maintain is that distinctive faith in Jesus Christ, believing that He died to save us all, trust that He will finish what He started, and take up our own cross and follow Him (Mt. 16:24).  "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose" (Ro 8:28).
