Galatians Chapters 2 and 3

Galatians chapters 2 and 3 specifically and directly deal with Judaism and what the death of Christ means for Jews and even to the Gentiles.  "Knowing that man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified" (Ga 2:16).  Believing that doing good works or obeying laws will produce righteousness, "then Christ is dead in vain" (Ga 2:21).  These two chapters make it clear the purpose of the law.  Given by God, the law was to allow man to draw closer to God (Ga 3:24) through righteous actions.  The death of Christ, however, produced a redemption from sin, a liberty from damnation, that allowed the Holy Spirit to dwell within man.  "For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus" (Ga 3:25).  Every man is a sinner condemned to pay the consequences of sin and to die eternally.  The sacrifice made by God bought the freedom from eternal damnation and released man from under the "schoolmaster" (Ga 3:24) of the law so that we may freely celebrate under the overwhelming cascade of grace, mercy, love, and blessing from God.
