Luke Chapter 5

The great catch of fish that Simon caught under the command of Jesus in the lake of Gennesaret is an awe inspiring act of God.  "Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught" (Lk 5:4).  Now Simon forewarned that the night before, they had worked all night and caught nothing, neverthelss, heeding Jesus, he went out to fish.  "And when they had this done, they inclosed a great mulititude of fishes: and their net brake" (Lk 5:6).  "When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord./ For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:" (Lk 5:8, 9).  The latter verse is very powerful.  "For he was astonished."  As a man, Peter witnessed the impossible, the might of a supernatural God.  He was called to catch fish, as we are called to spread the gospel.  The incredible and extraordinary power of God turned this lake that was lacking, into a lake that was more than enough with enough fish to be humanly impossible to catch them all.  In the like, in God's time, when He deems necessary, He will call us to go and He will have these fish come to us, and we must be prepared to believe God, surrender our previous attitudes and approaches, even if we seem impractical in attempting to obey God, and expect to see the power of God thorugh us and prepared to be astonished by the acts of God. Even as sinners, we must not be afraid to boldly follow God's command. When He prepares them for us and sends them our way, we better catch them, and through simple faith, understanding we are vessels of the Omnipotent, we will; for it is not through our understanding and actions, but the will and grace of God.
