1 Corinthians Chapter 7

Quickly going through the book of 1 Corinthians for my upcoming Bible study, I found some revealing verses in the final chapter I read.  "But to the rest speak I, not the Lord:  If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away./  And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him./  For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband:  else were your children unclean; but now are they holy" (1 Co 7:12-14).  It is advised not to shun a husband or wife because of their unbelief.  Rather, unbelieving spouses are sanctified by their companion.  Certainly that does not mean that the unbeliever will be saved by marrying a believer.  But through this sanctification, there is a process where the unbelieving spouse will be touched by the Holy Spirit and his/her actions perfected into the way of a faithful servant of God.  There is a divine plan when unbelieving and believing couples marry.  Through the faith and strength of the believer, the unbeliever will be sanctified, perfected, and saved from destruction.  As the believer, it is his/her duty to be a faithful servant of God, recognizing that he/she is the vessel through which the will of God is being performed.  As the ever powerful and true promise in Acts 16:31 states, "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
