Boiler 4 Click On Thumbnails To Enlarge Here's a pic of the firebox tubeplate after soldering. Here's a picture of the bits as they were at the end of April. Now time to get on with the outer shell of the boiler. On top of the outer firebox there are two bushes. One is for the safety valve, the other being for the manifold. As these were larger than I could easily drill these were chain drilled and filed to suit. Where there are flat surfaces on the boiler these need to be stayed to increase their strength. There are two stays which connect the backhead to the throatplate. Here they are before being screwed and fitted. It's now time to get the barrel ready. To hold the barrel square during soldering a couple of tabs were screwed to the throatplate. And finally the moment of truth - time to solder it all up. The result can be seen below - note that the tube bundle and inner firebox have been temporarily fitted to check everything's ok. |
