Castings Click On Thumbnails To Enlarge After some consideration we finally admitted that we were going to have to fork out for some castings. I add here that it's not necessary to use castings as some parts can be fabricated. We chose to use castings for convenience (damn we're lazy!) The picture below shows the cylinder block, steamchest and cylinder cover. The castings are all in cast iron The next picture is of the dome. This is the outer dome, i.e. it's more of a decorative rather than a functional part. The casting is in gunmetal and will require simple cleaning up. The picture below shows one of the eccentric straps. Again this is a gunmetal casting. This will needed facing to the correct thickness and the hole bored. The strap will then need to be drilled and split. The picture below shows the regulator stand casting. The section at the bottom that protrudes out fits against the inside of the boiler barrel with the body sticking up into the dome. And here's the smokebox door. And finally here's the feedpump casting. There are a few other castings as well but there not as interesting as these! |
