The CFL 2005 Season

The 2005 CFL season was a bit different with the bulk of games scheduled removed from a Sunday Schedule to Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Monday or Tuesday Scheduling in observance of the Sunday Sabbath. It went well for the CSF and will continue in this scheduling fashion for next year as well.

~CFL In The Beginning~

Early 1970’s

On and off till 1989 and the Days Of the Checker Football League!

History of the Cyber Bowl which in it’s early days was known as the Checker Bowl. Today the Checker Football League is Honored only by a remembrance figure of the Board Game, A Figure of a Member of the Wilson Warriors (QB, Joe Pisarchek) posed on top of the College Cyber Football League Championship Trophy. This was formerly the CFL’s Championship Trophy before it was decided an Honoring of the Great Papa Bear George Halas would be much more appropriate given his involvement and example for the building of the National Football League (NFL). As well as Paul Brown, the NFL’s greatest innovator, who put together such things as the “Cup System” for pass blocking, the face mask, and other hallmarks of the modern day game.

In the early 1970’s Keith J. Wilson (The present Owner of the CFL’s Video Buffalo Bills) began collecting football helmets from store gumball machines. In time he devised a game on the hall floor on the tile spaces. Soon he moved his boyhood game to a door throw rug with “Checker” spaces on it. He decorated it, and the early days of the CFL began. Back then it was known as the “Checker Football League”, the rag days of the modern CFL. It evolved with time, and with the years till it became a fairly good non-complex strategy game for any football enthusiast. Soon it became a neighborhood seasonal tournament in which was the Era of the Great Wilson Warriors (Checker Bowl I, II, III, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, & XI Winners). This Checker Bowl became a yearly tournament in which the 7 on 7 player Checker Football League Struggled yearly; survived and became what it has evolved into with the oncoming of the Computer Video Game Era, hence the same League initials, the CFL for Cyber Football League. These Cyber Football Players are much more realistic and animated than the early rag-day for runners who moved only by the roll of the die and the chess like decisions of a coach in which a play might last as long as two minutes or longer if a runner broke loose for what was known then as an “Exciting Play!” It evolved to be a somewhat quicker game with play cards, but it didn’t improve much and was still a strategy game.

Of course in today’s fast paced video gaming era, the game is fast paced, we have a real game clock, play clock, and all the strategy or more than we had originally in the checker football days of the 70’s and 80’s, except of course it is all computerized on the PS-2 game system, advanced from the Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 and PS-1. The day will come when we probably have the PS-3 or higher and the athletes appear real and more unanimated then they already are. With affordability, and time we look forward to that day. Until then we honor the tradition and history that is the CFL!
