Irene Snygg's Collected Letters Translated Letters from Irene Snygg's Collection In 1907 Minnie Anderson Snygg and her daughter Irene embarked on a trip from Nebraska to the old country Sweden. There Minnie died. This is a collection of letters which resulted from that period. Table of Contents: May 13, 1907 Minnie visiting at 43 Savin Avenue, Norwood, Mass writes to her husband Karl at West Point, Nebraska about snow in Chacago and Buffalo, Amanda, travel by electric car, Frieda, Peter, baggage transfers, and Irene's free fare. May 15, 1907 Minnie onboard the S S Saxonia writes to her husband about food, the cold weather, Scandinavian passengers, Clarence's letter, Sophie's shameful letter, her cough, Irene's new friends, pastor Erickson, Swedish efforts to get emmigrants to return, and Clarence's baby chicks. May 25, 1907 Minnie writes her last letter to her husband from Tenhult, Helstorp, Sweden about visiting the old folks in Helstorp, spending time in Jonkoping trying to find their sister (there was a mixup as Mia had written Lundgren instead of Lundquist), and signing "Your ever faithful wife". Jun 28, 1907 Jole Nylen, P.I.at Pastor's Office, announces the death, June 24, and burial in Frodinge, Kalmar Lan, Sweden of Karolina Vilhelmina (Minnie) Anderson Snygg Aug 05, 1907 * A P Pettersson in Holbachshult, Sweden writes to his son-in-law Carl Snygg and to his grandson Clarence about Mina's final days and diminished facilities, "when we asked her about Irene's welfare if she should die, she answered that God would look after her", and arrangements for Irene to return to America with Amanda. Aug 08, 1907 Irene Snygg visiting in Fjalster, Sweden writes to her Papa. "I was at the station at Vimmerby when they put mama in the baggage car on a stretcher." She writes that she is well and happy and that people are good to her. Aug 20, 1907 Amanda in Holbackshult, Sweden writes to Carl Snygg about arrangements to get Irene home and the final days of his wife Minnie. Oct 14, 1907 A P Pettersson in Holbackshult, Sweden writes to his son-in-law Carl Snygg telling of Amanda and Irene's departure for America on October 1st and begging "of you to be kind and gentle to your children". May 31, 1908 A P Pettersson and Edith Carlson in Holbackshult, Sweden write to Carl, Irene, and Clarence Snygg acknowledging the news of Irene's arrival home, begging "that you show sympathy and kindness to your children". noting the deposit of money in the Kalmar Bank in Vimmerby, and sending many greetings from cousins in Sweden Sep 21, 1921 J A Karlberg in Ostrahult, Sweden writes to his cousin John Snygg in America reminding Irene and Clarence that they have money in a Swedish bank and noting the passing of several relatives. On an interesting note, he says, "There is much unemployment and trouble among the people, all because they have to live on union wages." Jan 06, 1922 Hilma Sjoblad in Fjalster, Tuna, Kalmar Lan, Sweden writes to her cousin Irene Snygg in California recalling their summer together, noting the passing of relatives, and asking for photos. Apr 03, 1922 Hilma writes to Irene thanking her for photos, recalling how Irene was helped with the tearful writing of her letter to papa (Aug 08, 1907) and asks about California and her job at the bank. Dec 17, 1922 * Anton in Nyshult, Sweden writes in Swedish to his cousin Irene telling her that her Swedish writing is very good, that Axel is not married yet, and the money is on the way. Feb 24, 1923 Hilma writes to Irene asking if her father Karl has remarried, congratulating Clarence on his new son, and wondering how much the money she received from Sweden was worth in America (just chatty stuff). Nov 27, 1923 Hilma writes to Irene describing Axel's large wedding and sending along family photos. Mar 06, 1933 Hilma writes to Irene "Things have improved in Sweden since you were here. The conveniences you mention in your letter can be had in this country. To think that you have the letter you sent to your papa, after all these years. I remember so well ... I read the words to you and you wrote and cried. You did not want to hear about your mama leaving you."
