Dear Husband:

We arrived safely and Amanda met us at the station (Boston). It took two hours by electric car to reach Frieda's house (Amanda's sister) and we were so welcome. She has a beautiful home and her husband, Peter, works at a large printing company. He makes $16 a week. The living is expensive here.

So you have had snow at home. When we got a piece past Chicago it started to snow and continued until the next morning. When we arrived in Buffalo the city was covered with snow and it looked so wintery. On this side of Chicago one wonders how the people make a living. The scenery is beautiful with mountains and valleys and forests. In some places the train went through tunnels.

Our trunks were not on the baggage car of our train. We were not met by the agent but gave our baggage checks to an expressman and our trunks would arrive at the dock in Boston in time for our departure. We will check in the morning in plenty of time before embarking if the trunks have arrived. Amanda has also sent her baggage to the dock ahead of time.

I did not have to buy a ticket for Irene. They looked at her and said nothing. There are many from Boston who are going on our ship, even a missionary.

I expected to get a letter from you today but none has arrived. It won't be pleasant if I have to leave here without hearing from home. I hope you are all well. With us everything is fine so far. Irene is well and happy. Amanda and Frieda send their regards to all of you at home but the very best from me.

Minnie
