Fjalster, Tuna, Kalmar Lan Dear Cousin Irene: A very warm thank you for your dear letter and photos. They were very welcome, you may believe. It was so nice that you remembered your relatives in Sweden. It is a long time ago since we wrote to each other. (10 or 18 years) I cannot understand why we stopped corresponding. It was so very nice to see what a beauiful home you have. You may be sure that mamma thinks of you often. She was so delighted to hear from you again, as were we all, and that you are well and happy. I can understand you have been waiting for an answer and hope you can overlook my delay. Have thought of writing many times but something always gets in the way. We are are well and hope you are the same. Mama has been sick this winter. She had a bad cough and had to call the doctor. She had never taken any medicine in the past and now she is 82 years old. She is much better now but still weak. She is the only one left of her brothers and sisters. I think I told you Uncle in Nyshult is dead. Our Aunt is also dead so Cousin Axel now owns the farm. Uncle in Holbackshult is still living. That Uncle Karl, your papa, is 70 is hard to believe. I cannot remember if we told you papa passed away. It is now 7 years since he left us. Now we have a lot of snow here but did not have any at all until this week so the winter went by fast. Soon we will have summer and that is a good thing. In June and July we have the warmest days. Even May is nice when the trees begin to bud. Things have improved in Sweden since you were here. The conveniences you mention in your letter can be had in this country but not in Fjalster as they are so expensive. There was talk about supplying electricity in our town but nothing came of it. To think that you have the letter you sent to your papa, after all these years. I remember so well ... I read the words to you and you wrote and cried. You did not want to hear about your mama leaving you. You wonder if I can read your letters. No trouble at all ... you write like a genuine Swede. Am sending you a photo taken some time ago. Have no news at this time. Will now close with warmest regards to all the relatives from our family. And you are fondly greeted from your always humble Cousin, Hilma
