Tackle Rods:- Most rods are made from carbon fibre and this is certainly the kind to choose your rod from. It combines lightness with strength to an extent which none of the old fashioned rod making materials can match. However, always remember, DO NOT fish under electricity pylons or in thunder storms with carbon rods or poles. Reels:- The fixed spool reel is almost universally used for coarse fishing and has effectively superseded the traditional center-pin reel. However it is a fairly complex mechanism, and its is important that you learn how to use it properly. Lines:- By far the most popular line is nylon monofilament. You will see in advertisements and hear anglers talking about monofilament, monofil, mono, and nylon; all means the same thing. Nylon is the word commonly used. Hooks:- There is many types of hooks barbed, barb-less, eyed and spade. Its best to start off with eyed hooks because these are easiest to tie. Many waters don't allow barbed hooks because they can harm the fish. Swim Feeders:- A useful thing to have in your tackle box, used when legering, you fill it up with bait and cast out and the bait leaves the feeder when on the bottom. Floats:- These a used in float fishing and also legering when you use a sliding float. Weights:- Used when float fishing, there is many different sizes depending on how heavy your float is. Split shot are the most useful weights for float fishing , they are small non-toxic metal spheres with an open slit in them. Landing net:- Without a landing net you will suffer disappointment by losing fish. A most have if your going to fish. Coarse Fishing UK
