Coarse Fishing UK 2000

The place to come to find out about fishing.

Carp

In evolutionary terms a relatively young fresh water fish, unlike the pike, for instance, the carp originated in Central Asia, around the area of the watershed of the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, during the last post-glacial period. There followed a natural spread east into China and the surrounding regions, and west, as far as the Danube.

There is lots of different types of carp including ghost, wild and grass but the 3 main carp in British waters are, the fully scaled common carp, the mirror carp (not a full set of scales) and the leather carp (no scales).

Good baits for carp are maggot and worm, as well as bread, sweet corn but the best bait if you want the bigger carp has to be boilies.
