TO KAREN CARPENTER (1950-1983)
In Loving Memory
A long time ago
A little girl was born
No-one really knew
What she was able to do
She could sing and play the drums too
Her name was Karen Carpenter
It's nice to talk about the way you smiled
When your brother was around
He never let you fall on the ground
Though you were 4 years younger
You were always together
Karen was nice and funny
So sweet and always smiling
There was nothing your brother could do
But loving you
Yes, you loved each other
He played the keyboards
And one fine day
Richard said:
"What a wonderful voice she has"
Believe me, I'm not mad
But I'd like to go back in time
So I could hear her sing
Ticket to ride
By 1970 Top of the World
Made everyone sing along
And what about
We've only just begun
It became number one!
You were really a "superstar"
Why did you have to go so far?
Everybody wanted to be "close to you"
But they're all blue
Knowing that you could have lived a little longer
Had it not been for that eating disorder
These tears are coming back to me
When I remember how young you were
On 4th Feb 1983
You closed your eyes
And went so far away
All we can do is cry instead
At least, you weren't alone
You died at home
Mom wanted to wake you up
But there was no luck
You'd already gone
And this time forever
Richard and Karen will no longer sing together
Like they did before
I'd just like to say
That I wish you could live today
Your voice was so warm, unique, irresistible
So passionate, so incredible
There will never be other like you
Believe it's true
And just not knowing what to do
I wrote this
With love, from me to you
Rest in peace.
